The only plant I have in bloom at the moment is a lupin, just the one and that was battered last night by gale force winds and rain. Even the geranium flowers have succumbed.

On a slightly brighter note, the weather shows slight improvement here next week for a few days. Temperatures not set to climb above 60F for the next fortnight though. Emigration next week or the following one?

I second the ferns .... new ones that were in small 9cm pots and which were planted 3 months ago have more than tripled in size ... the ones that have done the best are dryopteris felix mas ... a lovely fern with a lime green colour

my huecheras have massive leaves now ... I would estimate the leaves to be larger than 7 inches in diameter ... I have been feeding them with seaweed and fish etc so perhaps that is the reason

I planted several dryopteris affins the king ferns 3 weeks ago, but they have not done much yet

what is taking slow is Hakonechloa macra aureola (japanese forest grass) ... even the ones which were planted out last year

musa basjoo is struggling to grow, honeysuckle has grown rampant in the past few weeks and star jasmine is doing ok ..

a bit of good heat and sun in a week or so, and gardens may look very good ... lawns are looking lush aswell, especially the ones that have been fed a bit of fertilizer

The pier is still there Spruce......just. The powers that be have been debating for the last ten years or so whether to repair or demolish it. Things work quickly here. :heehee: They've decided to reinforce what's left having 'sat on the fence' again. As a town Ramsey is pretty dismal now, sadly.

My garden is not doing as well as I'd hoped when I planned it (we have one flowering border which was intended to have year round flowers, the rest is veg and soft fruit). In flower right now is aconitum album, Black Lace elder, a couple of Campanulas and the Summer Song rose, and 3 different honeysuckles (Belgica, L. Caprifolium and L.tellemanniana) which have made their way in from next door. Not the mass of colour I had anticipated when I planted things! Most of the irises failed to produce anything other than leaves and the moonflowers died, they got too tall to remain in the house, so they had to go out and since then it's been cold. It was my first year growing them too. Hopefully I'll have better luck with them next year.

Lettuces and salads are doing well, toms not so good.
              Slugs are thriving....

My spring flowering irises developed flower heads just to be pounded by the wind and rain so they didn't come to much. I'm just wondering now whether they will set seed as I'd like to collect some.

With a lot of plants not developing flowers at the moment it makes you wonder how the farmers will get on with crops this year. I don't think it's only gardeners that have got problems.

It isn't. I've been told prices for some veg has doubled in the past week? And some stuff is having to be imported because the individual producers crops have failed (so not a nationwide failure)

Mind you, one of my gardening clients has a professionally designed garden which has been an absolute mass of colour until recently. Mainly phlox subulata, so guess what's going in my garden for next year?

I'm getting slight worried about the lack of flowers in my garden. We are having my sons birthday party (weather permitting) in the garden in 4 weeks and there is not one flower in sight with exception of the roses and sweet peas. Nothing apart from the Ganzia has any flower buds on either.

We're all in the same boat unfortunately Rusty. Until we get a decent amount of sun the plants will remain green.

I know but when:dunno:. Checked the long range forcast and its much of the same into the first couple of weeks of July. Its the summer solstice tomorrow so the days are going to get shorter :frown:. Its all starting to get a bit depressing.
