so .... I get a new car, and park my car in front of my house (I don't have a driveway, so have to park in the street)

the old woman accross the road is a (not nice).... she has a driveway, a garage and her whole front garden is paved with brick

I go to Tesco at lunchtime, .... so when I'm gone, she reverses her small car and parks in my parking spot

this happened at lunchtime today .... when I never parked my car there, she always parked in her own property

where I park my car, is in front of my lounge window ... I don't park in my neighbours spot as it's 'etiquette'

she has done this before when I had a van and a BMW just to be spiteful

anyway, my wife was harping on and on, so I decided to put an end to it ....

I knocked on her door and asked her why she parks in my parking bay ... she gets aggressive and says it's not my parking etc .... a few heated words were exchanged and I said what my wife would have said :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

    strange neighbours ....

she has now moved her car and I have now parked my car in 'my' parking bay

hope that settles it now once and for all ... I see 2 other old women (other neighbours) have now gone to visit her .... so suppose that's ruined the freindship between me and the rest of the old folk in my street

    :dunno:

    You need to ask her,

"You is only doing this because I is half Greek right?"

That'll confuse her & make her feel guilty:snork:

Dim, is this your first Volvo estate? Did you not realise that they are more than capable of pushing a small car out of the way, regardless of whether said small car has its handbrake on?

I want to keep the no claims on the insurance ...

I have strange neighbours though (they are all old) ....

that was just being spiteful ... she has space in her garden to park 3 double decker busses ... I would have left things be, but my wife was cheesing me off ... so hopefully it's sorted now

and at least my other neighbour who lives next door can park his car in front of his own property aswell now (where he always parks)

when I used to trade on ebay, she used to park her car in front of my property so that the DHL van could not have easy access ...

don't worry about it dim, unfortunately people can be selfish. it can really boil my pi** when they are though.

theres a guy opposite us, who doesn't give a to55 how he parks, (and has 3 cars) but the road is quite narrow and if a car doesn't park half on, half off the pavement, it can be difficult to get past if there is another car parked opposite and getting in our drive is a nightmare.
everyone in the rd parks half on, half off, but this guy doesn't. i'm not one for holding back to have words where selfishness is involved, but i've promised the mrs i'll behave (for now, until the baby's born beginning of august).

The diplomatic approach is required Dim.
When she parks in your space again, park in her drive. When she complains to you, you can explain that "unfortunately" she had inadvertantly occupied YOUR space.
She can't really complain. If she calls the Law, explain the position and they are more than likely to ask HER to modify her parking arrangements.

The counter argument to that would be that while parking half way on the pavement is a courtesy to other car drivers, its not very nice for wheelchair bound people, or people trying to push a push chair with shopping bags hanging over the side.

Under the old Rates system we paid a percentage called "Frontage" which went toward the upkeep of the bit of road outside your house and gave you first say on who parked there.

Now which government scrapped this system?

the pavement is that wide that the half on/half off approach wouldn't cause any concern to an articulated lorry if he so wishes to use the pavement. so no worries on that score. if it was, then i wouldn't park half on/off as wouldn't any of the other nieghbours.

and Zig, accept my apologies. :)

I'd swap neighbours with you. The neighbouring property to us is surrounded by six other houses. The old witch that lives in the property has fallen out with every other neighbour and just a few weeks ago, I became the last. I was in our garden splitting logs on a Friday and she came out and went mental at me for making noise 24hrs a day 7 days a week. She then went on to say that I think of no one but my self!
With that, I swung the axe through a log, and said you are quite wrong. I was infact thinking of you when I split that log. I then went on to split another and said the same thing again.
With that she stormed off to get her husband. I'm afraid that I let loose a few 'choice words' into him.

No worries Al:blue thumb: just a reminder.

Trouble is, most houses & roads were not built with the idea that a family would own a car, let alone 2 or 3.

I was heartbroken a while back when I visited the Cul de Sac where I grew up. Everyone used to be so proud of their front gardens, only small but immaculatly maintained.

I remember each one was different, from manicured clipped hedges to big Wegiala bushes.

All gone now & paved over to fit the myriad of cars:sad:

it all boils down to etiquette ... I don't park in my neighbours parking spot that is in front of his house .... he was not allocated that space, but he has claimed it as it's in front of his lounge/bedroom window ... and I respect that

likewise with mine .... no-one parked there when I never parked there , so why now?

same as when I get visitors .... I don't let them park in someone else's parking spot ... there are a few neighbours on my side of the road who do not own cars, so thats where I tell visitors to park, and have never had a prob

some neighbours just like to be difficult and seek attention from other neighbours ...
