Why would you spray them with Porvado as a matter of course, dim??? Spraying roses with pesticides when there's no need to just kills of Bees, Hoverflies, etc.

I've got two roses that hang their flower heads down [Rosemoore and Regenberg] and they need support to raise the flowers but it's very finicky doing it.

suppose for aphids, fungus etc, ? .... these are newly planted and were bare root .... it was a bit late to plant bare root, but they have all taken, so I will nurse them until they have established

I know Provado is systemic but my thoughts are that you don't just spray as a matter of routine. I spray with my roses with fungicide very early in the spring when there's very few insects around and usually in the evening just to make sure.
I know you're thinking with your commercial landscaper's "hat" again, dim, as you have to. but spraying pesticides when there's no visible pests will give you lots of plants but no insects and believe it or not we all need the insects to give us a balanced "happy" garden. You have to work hand in hand with nature.....or, like the other thread you posted, the pesticides end up in yours and my food. It's knowing the three "W's" of spraying that gets amateur and professional gardeners alike to stop spraying indiscriminately i.e. "Why, What, and When", and lessen the effect we are having on nature.:snork: You know what I mean!:heehee:

After our windy night, and now looking at the roses in the wind today, I will definately use a supporting system with these 2 roses next year. A few of the branches are on the floor and so the roses are getting knocked about a bit. Or, as with the crocus roses that are planted in a group of 3, I could also put these other roses in groups.
I used a well known spray a few weeks back, but that was only because of a ton of aphids invaded. I did my best to keep them at bay by squashing them but a little spray did the job in the end. Hopefully I won't have to use it again.
