Is there a way to disable this feature per account? Its just half the time I think someone has deliberately linked to something of interest, and then it isn't.

If I mention ebay, for example, does it turn into a link for you?

EDIT: Hey, it didn't for me this time:) I wonder if its already been turned off. For a while, everything that could conceivably be a potential shopping search term was automatically being turned into a link. I was told its a feature because when I first saw it, I thought my machine might have picked up some malware.

It has turned it into a link for me :dunno:

First time I've noticed it or even heard of it.

    Interesting.
The word ebay is not typed by you as a link but as you say it becomes a link. Clever. its got to be software on this forum that does that.
Wonder what else it does it to?

    Just googled, found THIS

a quick read, shows most sites its not supposed to happen to if you are logged in.

I find it very annoying - links coming and going, and not knowing whether a link is intended by the poster, or added by Skimwords (yeah, I can mouse-hover and wait for the tool-tip to come up ... but, like I say, its annoying).

On another site that uses a similar advertising system the tooltip has a little information icon with details of how to disable (process is a bit tedious, you have to add it to the browser's "ignore" list of IP address, but it can at least be done)

Different styling (e.g. I've seen a double-underline on other sites) would help. Currently it looks like an ordinary link and thus any link added to my post will make it look like I have personally endorsed that product and, speaking for myself, I am not happy about that.

There is something on the Xenoforums website about disabling it for registered users (presumably subscribed users would work too - although I've lost touch with whether donations are just anonymous these days, or whether you can actually "subscribe" as such). Although having said that, it doesn't alter my point that a link that appears to be in content I have posted thus appears to be endorsed by me.

Still Zagging, as you can see from the above smiley.

Got fed up of spelling out the whole lot when logging in.

Nathan will have a look at this later he said:dbgrtmb:

Yeah, I've noticed these links popping up. As Kristen says, it gives the impression of endorsement, somewhat misleading....
