    Nice shots on there Zigs, I must get out and have another go at star trail 'tography..

          Notice there is no Southern Pole Star.

          Its just coincidence that we have a Pole Star aligned with our Northern Magnetic Pole.

            Eclipses like the ones we see on earth are also very rare for planets, the moon is positioned at just the right distance on earth to cover the sun (by pure luck it need not be that way for life to survive) but on 99% of other planets eclipses would look a lot less spectacular :biggrin:

              Its slowly moving away from us so the event won't last forever.

              I think by that time though we will be either extinct or living on large spaceships wearing bio-mechanical suits traveling from planet to planet consuming all of their natural resources before moving on to somewhere else.

              We'll have to be. Without the Moon we will start to wobble, imagine the chaos of the poles migrating to the Equator on a regular basis.
