I take it you didnt like it ?? :heehee:
Its the trouble with ITV usually. Making money rather than a decent program. Mr T does seemed to have dumbed down a lot. A shame, as he has awe-inspiring knowledge.

yeah, good point. I'm going to have my hair bleach-blonded to go with my new-found intelligence! Did lots of x30 though - I'm getting good at that after X-Factor and TheVoice etc.

Now with Monty I have do x -2 and || to go back and get the plant name so I can write it down ...

Nah, the joints have to be lap-sealed, or better, for that; just wrapping it round once won't keep them in; Have to have lip above grown to stop the runners "jumping" out too. And I agree, far too small a root-run (hence my earlier trench& root-barrier comment). Plenty of well behaved clumping Bamboos available, if all they wanted was individual clumps, rather than a "hedge".

Won't be good if they were all the same variety and happen to flower sometime soon :(

      Kristen,

You say that tree would not be your first choice. May i ask why ? I have a clay, sticky wet soiled area and im looking for a tree to fit. I thought this one maybe my tree. Your thoughts ?

Its probably just a personal thing. I don't like the Flamingo variegation, that pink doesn't do it for me. I have grown one as a shrub and I think it was a weakling (again, may just have been my bad luck, but it was a quality plant - it died though). The leaves on the one on L.Y.G. looked a bit pathetic - but, like I said, that might have been early spring and the buds had only just broken.

I have a box elder here (plain-jane variety), its a lovely tree. Really wide, relative to its height.

The first garden I created I put an Acer negundo in, can't remember the variety, but from memory it was a golden variegated form. Aurea and/or Variegatum probably. It was a smashing eye catching plant, and grew very strongly. Don't seem to see it much now, clearly out of fashion, but that would be my preference for a "Big shrub", and for a small tree I would choose a Mountain Ash with interesting autumn foliage and whatever colour berries takes your fancy. Or grow a Topiary of something amazing that will astound your friends!

Thanks for your reply. Im tending to agree with you on the foliage aspect. Maybe for a shrub but for a tree, maybe not.
I already have two Rowans'. Is the mountain Ash variety hardier and suit wetter soils ?

My loose terminology "Mountain Ash" is probably the same as your "Rowan" so I doubt any difference (although various forms available). I don't know if they are suited to wetter soil, sorry.

Agree with all of what you said. Found the show quite dull and didn't really learn anything to do with gardening techniques. Was more how to get "the look" which is pointless until you know what to plant, how to plant it and look after it. I know these things, but I'm sure many people watching that were hoping to learn and are perhaps a little overwhelmed Gardeners World.

There is a gap in the TV scheduling for a programme for beginner gardening, which I seemed to remember this program was originally designed to do but seems to have lost its way I wonder.

Also found it interesting the girl who was a landscaping expert wearing hot pants in a garden similar to Glastonbury. Found it also interesting that considering the conditions none of them really got filthy, even her pretty little legs. Makes you wonder who's really doing the work.....

Well, I've got to confess that after watching the first episode of "Love Your Garden"...aka "Ground Force in poor disguise" it hasn't occurred to me to watch it again. I do have respect for Alan Titchmarsh as a Presenter and Gardener but I think this set of programs does nothing to inform gardeners about real gardening and possibly disappoints fans of AT who expected a new fresh gardening program and got a rehash of an old one with the cynical aspect of "subtly" commercially pushing products. It's yet another example of TV ignoring the needs and wants of Gardeners nationwide and pushing out programs with another agenda other than gardening.

                  I watched both ... it's interesting, however:

it's a tv program, so they choose plants and shrubs that are at their best during the filming (everything is in bloom) ....

looks good when planted, but what will it look like in a month when everything has stopped flowering?

Not only in a month's time, dim, but within two seasons the garden will have gone!!. Most of the people being at the mercy of the "Ground Force" change in their garden are not gardeners to any real extent and therefore don't know how to garden in the first place. That's not "knocking" them but I think it is unfair to them as they probably believe the garden is forever! The theme of the program seems to be short term gardening and a agenda of making the TV team look good.
