No, but this is his rose garden. (The Cathedral gardens. I seem to remember Woo has spent some time looking after the roses.)

Forgive me for being thick - but is the greenery on the left of your second photo what they are complaining about?

        Hello FC

No. If you look at the first photo you'll see just a small part of the large tangle of plants growing over my end wall. The reason the council has got involved is that they're obstructing the pavement.

Ah, I see - I was about to get all incandescent on your behalf there.

I would suggest that you make yourself known on Saturday morning, and remind the council supervisor that any injury sustained by your gardener, his employees or yourself as a result of the debris lying under the growth is solely their liability.

Once cleared, I would complain about every bit of rubbish and every disturbance in that area, making sure that each complaint is lodged in writing, and if they fail to clear any future debris in a timely manner then I would raise a complaint through the council's formal complaints procedure.

i think from now on ClaraLou, you need to make yourself the councils worst nightmare. i'd complain about every bottle top, scrap of newspaper, lolly stick, stone, anything that constitutes debris and/or litter in the vacinity.
2 e-mails a day to them 'til xmas should do it, any paving that is slightly raised or cracked that'll cause little old ida-may from down the road to trip, moss on the paving, leaves from the autumn fall in the gutters, you get the gist :snork:

it'll cost the beggars far more than the grand they wanted to take of you i'll tell you. :blue thumb: councils=legal bully boy extortion.

What's the area at the back of your house Clara? It looks like a stumpy cul de sac of some description? I'm wondering if you could offer to the council to maintain it if they sign it over to your house!
PS I hate councils, ours is the pits.

Funnily enough, Loofah, we tried that one! The road wasn't a dead end when we moved here, but became one after the Council approved the building of a new housing estate. This left the perfect little hole for crims to dump rubbish and burn out cars. We tried to buy the bit behind our house so that we wouldn't have the problem. The answer was no, of course.

Everyone moans about councils, but ours really takes some beating in the general uselessness stakes. We've decided that the grandeur of the department's name is inversely proportional to its usefulness. Overgrown plants are the responsibility of the 'Department of Community, Regeneration and Culture'. :rofllol:

Well, my trusty garden clearance guys have turned up bright and early this morning. They were a little surprised to find that the Council's 'clear up' had left them having to work in a rubbish tip, but fortunately they haven't thrown their tools down in a huff (I guess that's the difference between working for yourself and working for a public institution). I wouldn't have blamed them if they'd simply legged it, because yet more rubbish has been dumped. It has been joined by this handy appliance.

I'm fuming reading this Claralou:gaah:Surely your neighbours can't be happy about it either....some support from them would be good:blue thumb:...i'd also keep giving the police a call re 'fly tipping'.....
It's only a shame whoever dumped that fridge didn't 'place' it across the entrance to the cul-de-sac....thus causing an obstruction............so the next time anyone wanted to dump anything they'd have to climb over it to do so...........................:WINK1:

Agreed - complain about it to the council, and do so on a daily basis until it is removed.

                      Hello Loli.

Well, actually I think some of neighbours believe the problem is due to my plants, whereas I know that things go back much further than that. I stopped clearing up and maintaining the boundary because I simply couldn't bear it any longer. This is not an area with many gardeners, and some people tend to see vegetation, even of the well- kept variety, as a bit of threat. Why not just have some nice concrete like everyone else? Why do I have to be different? A stray stem of Clematis 'Etoile Violette' had the cheek to flop over my neighbour's fence the other day. It was rudely cut off in its prime. :heehee: So anyway, as far as I'm concerned I've done my bit, the plants are gone and they can all get on with it. :) I wish them many pleasant conversations with the local council. It now has a 'Customer First' line for complaints. You send an e-mail and get an automatic message in return, thanking you for your communication and promising to get back in a week or so. Perhaps. Maybe. If there's time. It's essential to prioritise things and do the important stuff first, such as thinking up this week's ridiculous departmental names. 'Community, Regeneration and Culture' is going to be pretty hard to beat. But I quite like 'Department for Diversity, Inclusivity and Bovine Excrement'.

Cram all the rubbish into it first though.
