Sweet corn...

    Could i plant sweet corn where potatos have just been harvested?

    If you've got some, or can find them in a Nursery yes, but its getting a bit late to grow them from seed now.

    With the weather we've been having I don't think they'll do well this year, we're on the edge of the zone as it is.

    I got some yesterday and have already planted them....i should have asked first but thought i'd try and be clever:snork:...:phew:...thanks Zig at least i know i haven't made a boo boo...they are covered with a cloche....i'm trying to kid them into thinking the weathers warming up :rolleyespink:

    The one advantage they have over our native food plants is that they are C4 plants, so they can use any sunlight to photosynthesise right throughout the day. C3 plants shut down when they have used up available carbon dioxide in their leaves due to shutting their stomata to conserve water.

    So if the sun does come out again, they'll be able to use it.

          You'll need to cross your fingers that they have enough "summer" growing time to make some cobs though, but nothing tastes so significantly better than the Supermarkets than home grown corn (nearly spelt that wrongly!!)
