Hopefully it can be sorted out. It's a distraction simply because it gets highlighted the same way we put deliberate links in. If it came up in a different colour we would be able to ignore (that's probably why it doesn't come in another colour).

I wonder if there's a max number of Skimword links that will display per post? I've seen some posts on another forum with so many words converted to shopping links that it sometimes becomes difficult to spot a user inserted link amongst them all, especially if they've given it a short title. I'm sure I've even seen competitions to see who can get most/greatest shopping links to words ratio in a post.

Well, if it gets to offend my eye too much I can always use the 'log off' button. :)

I'd just like to know what the intention is please. Speed of implementation is not bothering me as much as knowing what the intention is (given that "management" now has the benefit of users' feedback)

    Thanks Zigs

I believe Nathan intends to replace it with something else. He's not been on here much recently though.

Cheers for bearing with us Kristen.

I am looking into this, I have no immediate plans to remove Skimlinks altogether, but i am looking at changing the text colour for skimlinks to match the rest of a post ie Black and underlined.

From what I gather, some custom code needs to employed.

    So bear with me.

    Thanks

Nathan has taken all your complaints on board all at once and removed the skimlinks.

He'll need a pint after that though.

Entirely up to you on the styling, but my suggestion would be to use a double-underline which on my travels I often see associated with "injected" links, and I think it clearly differentiates them from ordinary links (and from stuff that a user may choose to underline for emphasis)

Again, purely my personal opinion albeit based on my professional experience, I think links coloured the same as ordinary text are confusing for the user - indistinguishable from ordinary underlined text - although if they change on MouseOver (different colour text or background) that does indicate to the user that there is an "action" associated with them, then that helps.

But as I say, just voicing my opinion, its up to TPTB to decide amongst an infinite number of possible choices :)

I don't suppose they are as effective as SkimWords, but is there a possibility of having GoogleAds in a right panel that reflects the content of the posts (similarly to how SkimWords does - and I presume how Adsense does too)? That moves the link out of user-content, and hopefully attracts users who are interested (I think there is a risk that users click-through Skimwords because they think that the link is endorsed by the poster - which in turn leads to a lot of click-throughs that go no further, and that may in turn impact on payment benefit? - I mean: I would not want to pay for click-throughs where 99% of users don't progress further into the site)

        Thanks, Nathan.

I don't care what is done as long as it doesn't make the posts look too bad (some were looking ridiculous and I just couldn't be bothered with those threads) and as long as it doesn't look as though I'm endorsing any products.

Some forums do, indeed, have shopping links injected. More often, however, the intrusive links are due to some sort of plugin you have installed in your browser. I would check there first and delete any unwanted extensions; this will clear the problem up immediately if their source isn't the site.
