Chitting Kaz, thanks for saying that I have talent. I can't really say that I do, I just enjoy playing with wood, and I'm learning all the time.

    Fat Controller. thanks as well.
I don't really currently sell my pieces, but it is something that I'm slowly working on. The weekend was very handy in that respect, as I have come away with a greater understanding of what people appear to like, and how they like wood to be finished. The weekend whilst quiet, was far from a waste of time. It's also given me a bit more of an incentive to help others, as in children or people with learning difficulties. I'm going to explore this avenue much further.:)
The planter that you mention still isn't finished. I'm going to stain the lower three quarters of the wood the same dark blue as the pot, then gradually sand the wood back to its natural colour as the wood rises, so in effect it will start dark and then fade to nothing.

For what its worth, I think you have the talent, you just need to build your own confidence up and prove to yourself that your product is the sort of thing that people will want.

Already, I can envisage that planter with a smaller pot in the upper part, planted with a couple of upright plants in the lower pot, one upright in the upper pot, and then trailing plants to drape down.

Seriously, I can think of a few people that would be proud to have that on their patio. Keep at it, and I am certain you will be successful.

I love the planter Eddy, but can I add my two penny worth again please?

I'd be inclined to stain the wood to the lip of the pot then fade it out leaving the top curves natural. :)

That plant holder is stunning. Would love to own that. Would have to be a top notch plant that was allowed to sit in there!!

I too would buy Eddie's work. I have no doubt at all that there's a market for work of that quality.

However, Eddie, you clearly have a passion for what you do, and passion can be killed off when you have to make stuff to order, so maybe it might be a good idea to carry on making things you want/are inspired to make, and then sell any pieces privately. When you find the pieces sell well, then you can decide whether you want to commit to ramping up production a bit to make it a business, or not.

I would be a bit better than that, I would use all the sawdust I had made to soak up the blood.

I had another play before going to work today.

My first attempt at carving a horse. Now I Just need some more practice.

                        I've been at it again!

There probably won't be any more playing with scrap oak though as it is just to brittle. After having the nose snap off once and the feet twice, I have decided that I shall just use oak for my larger work. Next up will be a mega size mouse that will hold a flower pot.

And this was last weeks little play, which had given me the idea for the above.

I like the way your first attempts are better than some apprentice pieces.
