Another Brugmansia Question...

I've got 2 Brugmansia plants growing from seed sown this year kindly donated by PeterS , both plants are in 5 litre pots and are about 3ft tall, however one is looking rather sick ; I can't post any pics at the moment as I don't have my camera (left it at my parents house - DOH!), so I'll do my best to describe the symptoms.

The 'sick' plant is still growing at more or less the same rate as the healthier looking plant (perhaps just a little slower) and the new leaves appear soft and normal, but all the older leaves are curling under, have become very rough and coarse to the touch and they have also gone very yellow. The leaflets along the stem are fine and the main stem is fine as are the roots, I tapped it out of the pot and it has a healthy root system. I've also checked the undersides of all the leaves for any bugs such as aphids but there isn't a thing.

Both plants have been fed and watered exactly the same and are kept in the same place, which is in my "blow-away" greenhouse with door fully open, so they are afforded some protection but don't get too hot. By comparison the healthier plant has softer green leaves that don't curl under along the edges.

Any help would be greatly appreciated..

 

One of the batch I grew [from seed] last year resembles your description. Its no better this year. Sorry, don't know the cause, perhaps I should just "bin" it ?

 

Spray it anyway (insecticide) , give it a good dose of epsom salts, stand back and watch what happens.

Good question, I never bother that much.

I usually add about four heaped teaspoons to a gallon.

Update.....well after its treatment most of the old "ill" looking leaves have fell off but the new growth and the side shoots are a picture of health, lovely lush green with no yellowing or curling under , Thanks Pete

 

Why is epsom salts so good for plants? what is in this stuff!!?

Truly just a stab in the dark Bilbo,

Val epsom salts contain magnesium sulphate, it good for settling an upset stomach as I'm sure you know.
But some plants need more magnesium that others and usual signs of deficiency is yellow leaves or yellowing between leaf veins.
You can spray it or water it in around the roots.

Used mainly on tomatoes Brugs and citrus, but the occasional dose will help quite a few types of plants if the look yellow.
