Since we've moved we have started to allow our "house cat" on attended garden visits because of how much he would meow and paw at the doors :frown: however since we started doing this he has begun spraying everywhere indoors! he does that funny shake next to walls and anything which has been accidentally left at his level and it's driving me barmy!

we think the problem stems from the amount of cats that are in this neighbourhood (there must have been at least 12 different cats in our garden this week alone...)

    what can we do? :dunno:

Caz will know im sure :blue thumb: ive got 11month old she cat and a kitten(indoors) but ive got a tomcat(not mine) thats here all the time now chasing lucy and spraying up everything plus napping in my potting shed:gaah:which i dont mind but life would be easier if him was neutered...the chasing around is damaging young plants and the thought of using my mints etc after hes been there is a tad off putting :heehee:

I have heard that occasionally cats can still do this after they've been 'done'. I'd have a word with your vet about it.

An old washing up bottle makes a good water sprayer, if you want to persuade other cats to go elsewhere.

 Aww poor puss. I think he is feeling threatened so get your water gun out & frighten the other cats away from your garden as a starter & give him a helping hand...

You could also try leaving YOUR scent around the garden outside. That way he will smell you when he explores. Use a plastic bottle though. You don't need the neighbours thinking your nuts and calling the cops........

We used to deter other cats by using the cheapest nastiest and strongest smelling perfume we could find, dont want to mention a brand name incase i offend any one lol. We had 4 female cats at the time and it definately put the male cats off. Just sprayed it around the garden perimeter a little bit worked a charm.

My neutered males do spray outside, but never inside. I think Marley and Catz are correct. Get a nice water bottle that gives good aim to correct his inside issues.
I used mine often as they were growing up to deter the curtain climbing stuff, and it worked so nicely, you do get good with your aim.

well, you cut his nuts off and expect him to be placid about it?

he's just getting back at you by peeing on your prized possesions .... cats are intelligent and karma always comes back to bite you

What I've noticed with male cats is the longer they go unneutered the larger their head fills out. Two of my males were done at 14 weeks, even now at 7 years old their heads are not as large as a male cat I had fixed when he was 2 years old. Just wondering if someone else seen this.

that would be because it is too early to sterilize a cat at 14 weeks andthe head does not develop properly.
Also, a cat not sterilised has some built in protection around the headfor when he fights with other cats and that makes the head look bigger.

Oh dear. What with all the stuff on neutering, I read this as 'you don't need the neighbours thinking about your nuts'. Definitely not, I'd say. After all, you know what happened to the cat ...

That makes a lot of sense Miraflores, unfortunately I had to get all 7 kittens fixed as early as it was allowed thus to start placement in homes. These 2 were part of the 7 kittens I had rescused .
