There is a snail that lives near Salisbury that is the only UK land snail with an operculum.

I've eaten snails loads of times .... it's common is south african restaurants and is served as a starter .... cooked in garlic butter and served in plates that have 6 recesses for the snails .... and served with brown bread

I would eat it again as a starter as it's not too filling and tastes good (with a bit extra cracked black pepper)

Dim, you'd eat an inner tube if I put some freshly cracked black pepper on it:biggrin::WINK1::biggrin:

Pepper is my favourite .... when we visit friends and have dinner, I have a bad habit of adding pepper to the food before even tasting (and without thinking) ... my wife gets well cheesed off and often pinches me

lately, I have been adding Tabasco sauce to loads of my food

When I was a teenager I stayed with a friend's lovely family in sardegna. The mum was a wonderful cook, and they still did things like dry tomatoes and get salt from the salina. One of the dishes she prepared for us was snails, gathered by her husband early in the morning. She baked them stuffed with breadcrumbs, parsley and lots of garlic. The way she prepared them was very tasty, but my enjoyment was slightly tainted....sat out in the interior courtyard earlier that day I discovered the pan with all the snails sat soaking in water awaiting their doom. There's something quite cute about the way they move their little antenna eyeballs about. It rather spoilt my enjoyment!
