Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately we have a bindweed infestation at the moment not sure where it came from. I have read Glyphosate weedkiller will get rid of it.

Hi Dave, bindweed is a pest.. An easy way to weedkiller it is to put some canes in & encourage it to climbe the canes, then mix Glyphosate with a good squirt of W U Liquid so it is thickish then get an old paint brush & paint the bindweed growing up your canes, being careful not to splash it on other good plants..

I'd check whether either of the neighbours has bindweed too. Joint action is called for!

                  Hi Marley Farley,
Thanks for the advice.I was going to use plastic milk cartons suspended by their handles on canes and dip the bindweed into it.Luckily we don't have any plants near the bindweed.

Hi westwales I think it may have come from next door but she is moving so I won't bother her she has enough to do getting the property ready for sale.

                    I have read:

                    Grow bindweed up cane

Untangle and stuff the (still attached) foliage into a jam jar (or similar)

Fill jam far with Glyphosate mixture

Wait until leaves have "drunk all you can eat" and taken it down to the whole root system.

Carefully remove jam jar or move it to next area to be attacked.

The front garden was almost as bad as the back it's starting to look a lot better with the new retaining wall and path.
Hopefully the baccara black roses, spirea snow mound, syringa microphylla superba dwarf and ground cover perennials we have planted will give the garden some nice colour.
Shame we have had such a poor summer we need some sun.

Some pics of the front garden.Bit of a mix and match with the pots but we have to work with what we have got. The slate with the decking (to be removed) is going to be a rockery with over 60 stones to go in and around as edging. Trouble is I cannot lift them lol.
