I picked up one of these yesterday off our local market; a Phsycocarpus 'Diablo', at £2.50 in a 3lt pot and almost 3ft in height I couldn't resist as I love dark/purple leaved plants too..:)

Can't wait til I get my camera back back that I left at my parents when we visited last week then I can take pictures of actual plants I bought :heehee:

bargains today .... went to a carboot at one of our village pubs .... not a lot there and bought some junk for £2.50 (a calculator for 50 pence, and a box with cheap earrings for my daughter for £2)

then, decided to go to our local tip/recycle centre .... there were 3 large black sankey dalek compost bins (330 litres) ... (all the same) .... asked one of the guys what the cost was, and managed to get all 3 for a fiver .... there are no bases (not worried about bases), and one is missing it's lid ...

bargain as they cost £48 each:

also got an old garden fork for £1 .... its a small one and could be for women, but will be good for weeding small beds ... garden fork looks similar to this one, but it's very old with an oak handle/stem

Just bought four David Austin roses : Gertrude Jekyll, Teasing Georgia, Lady of Shalott and Princess Alexandra of Kent.

I also bought a couple online this morning : Sceptre'd Isle and Jude the Obscure.

Are they supposed to have bases? I thought they just sat on the bare earth (so bugs / worms / etc. could come upwards) well, anyway, the two I have [bought brand new] had no bases - so you may have got the full-deal, apart from missing lid - which is easily sorted of course. Good job!

I got 3 little brothers of the big red one today. Dahlia 'piccolo pink'. 3 for a fiver. Not in tip-top condition but five minutes of dressing up soon put them right. I`ve already potted them up but it`s lashing down again so will post a pic later. A bit of TLC, nice compo` and sunshine will do them the world of good. Well getting 2 out of 3 ain`t bad I suppose :loll:
They`re listed as dwarf bedding plants. Is it safe to assume they`re still perennial though?

I also got 6 fuchsias for 2 quid. Not bad condition for 'sale' plants I must admit. Again, they`re already potted up. They had a great root system on them too, so am hoping for good things from them. Un-named though :dunno:

In the pic with the yellow Dahlia, you can see another one in the background with the purple leaves. Well it had buds on it like this.......3 days ago

And now it has a flower like this.......

            Gorgeous single I think.

Wow, what is that "Pink" Dahlia above? I know digital cameras don't usually portray a true representation of colour but if the actual flower is darker than in the pic above it'll be very welcome in my garden.

It IS actually darker in real life. Just took the laptop out to compare them.

I got it from Dobbies for 5.99 and it was sold as just a 'happy single'.

Seems, after a quick search, you can get them from here http://www.verwer-dahlias.nl/en/hs_intro_en.htm

Hope this sways your choice Scorpio

Edit to add: seems like it`s also known as 'happy single wink'. Found a bit more info here http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/182770/

Scorpio - the Albucca is looking good! It's a cracking plant that is easy from seed, so keep your eyes open - should flower in its second year.

Many thanks for that Gretzky. I'm calling in to my local Dobbies on the way home tonight. My front and back gardens are absolutely jam packed now following Hampton Court on Sunday but some things have just got to have room found for and I think this will look good up against my Holly Green Fence when the sun goes down. (Woops i just trod on the wifes' Geranium) :heehee:

Hopefully you`ll pick some up then buddy. They really are a beautiful plant. They can maybe order for you if they don`t have any in stock.

                    Best of luck.

I`ve been out again today folks :runforhills:

Got this for a fiver (reduced from £14.99) and 4.50 for the bracket. The effort to stick it on the pillar of my garage was free :)

Also the Dahlias cried "buy me" to them so who am I to disappoint :loll:They weren`t in pristine condition but after a little trim........
