Why do you think that Jane's front garden is so immaculate and well presented. She doesn't need a listening device.

If Jane suddenly starts being tight lipped, and running back into the house with her head down every time the nice lady tries to speak to her, wont that too be a clue that something is amiss... or should that be amistress?

Still chat and say hello, but thats all, dont offer up any information, even if she asks, because like her (Jane's) husband said, he is a neighbor who does live next door.

            Jane,DEFINITELY Don't go there.:nonofinger:.
We had something very similar a number of years ago.Great neighbours for years, attended all our family functions,weddings,birthdays.etc.
He left her,and the change was unbelievable. She went mad with umpteen men, parties, fights with the boyfriends and after the fights with the boyfriends, she would take it out on us and other neighbours.
I called the police out, sometimes twice in the one day.I contacted the local council,my lawyer,my M.P,etc.
The Gardens were getting trashed, Cars were being vandalised, I could go on and on and on,but it would take me till this time tomorrow to go through it all.
She Turned from a great friend to a neighbour from HELL.
To cut a long story short, she got an A.S.B.O.,Then Jail Time, then Lost Her Home.
You can be pleasant, but keep at arms length with your opinions. your Husband is correct,Don't Get Involved. It's Amazing how the word NICE can change to the word NASTY.:cry3:.

Why, Aesculus? I see no treetreetreeing and nothing remotely smutty. But then I was at my son's graduation yesterday. :heehee:

I'm just echoing what's already been said, Jane. Don't get involved. Neighbours are a special breed, really. Unless you're exceptionally lucky, they're not really your mates but on the other hand you want to have a good relationship with them because they have the capacity to make your life hell. It says a lot for you that you worry about your neighbour's hapless girlfriend but personally, after everything I've been through in my road, I wouldn't care what state the guy next door's love life was in just so long as he managed to conduct it reasonably quietly.

Life isn't fair but there is a sort of rough karma about it. You'll probably find that your neighbour gets what he deserves without your help. Perhaps you'll find that the various women eventually vent their spleen publicly. That's what happened to my ex-husband, who is now coping with wife #3 slagging off wife #2 via Twitter and splattering all his dirty linen over the world wide web. I feel almost - but not quite - sorry for him.

The guy obviously hasn't any sense. I have always kept on good terms with my ex's
It's no good harbouring bad thoughts, after all there were good times!

A damn sight less expensive too

make it worth your while .... deep in your heart you know you have to say or do something

so confront your neighbour and tell him that if he does not mow your lawn and wash your car on a weekly basis, you will tell the lady/ladies who visit there

I think we can all give "good advice" quite happily because we're not there to bear the brunt of the consequences as JJ is should she decide to enter her neighbour's world and "have a word".
Is it the proximity of the neighbour that makes people next door decide they should give advice on their personal life??? How far do you extend that.........to the whole street??? Unsolicited advice is rarely appreciated by the recipient and usually leads to resentment and hostility on both sides.
I think Clara Lou has given the most realistic and worldly advice so far and I would go with that, JJ.:snork: Following "deep in your heart" feelings usually leaves you deep in the Doo Doo.:coffee:
