What would you do if your neighbour was really bad about keeping up with their lawn? Would you just ignore the eyesore, mention it to them personally, or mow it for them? I've opted to do the latter at times!

Are you talking about a front lawn? If it was an eyesore then I might possibly offer to mow it but that's not likely.

when I mow a client's lawn, and their neighbour's lawn is unkept, I sometimes knock on the neighbour's door and offer to mow it for £15-£20 ....

many accept the offer and I have got lots of new regular jobs this way

My neighbour is like that. She gets someone in when it's getting bad. Serious problem with weeds, which unfortunately transfers to mine. She's nice enough though and quiet, so I don't mind too much.
I wouldn't want to offer to mow it as it takes over an hour to do mine, two hours for a perfect trim. It would mean I would end up doing hers weekly too, and no doubt other jobs. Sounds a little selfish I suppose, but I am at work all week, I want as much of my weekends to myself.

Lawns are a waste of time and space. They take up room that could be used for something INTERESTING. Having said that, our front needs some TLC and something doing to it. The back has taken up most of my time and money so I will get to it at some point. The only reason for a lawn is if you have kids, then they have a place to play. This is my PERSONAL opinion but I agree that a nicely kept lawn looks better than a scraggly weedy patch!

Good way to get some one else to do it for you and if it's free even better, another half hour watching the tv :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

I'd leave it unless it contains bindweed. They might like it.

My front lawn is scruffy at present. I'd be fuming if someone mowed it without asking me. Its full of clover which I've deliberately left in place for the bumblebees, who are having a bit of a hard time of it lately so any source of nectar that puts itself there without my intervention is welcome to stay.

This is my opinion; you don’t have to agree with me if you don’t want to, if it is not yours to worry about then don’t worry about it, it might look like an eyesore but no offence to the Northamptonshire counsel they leave the lawns around my area more of an eyesore then before it was cut, tbh it’s a loose loose situation but as long as you are happy with your own garden don’t worry about your neighbours!
I agree with clueless1 Your neighbours might be leaving there lawn, for the wildlife, I personally have a patch of lawn which I don’t cut on purpose for the wildlife it might look like an eyesore but we aren’t the only
            Regards

              I agree with clueless too
my front lawn looks messy too, wildlife experiment... :)

my neighbours have flowering thistles on the front lawn !! fortunately there is a driveway in between so they can't spread to mine via the roots (relief).

there is not much you can do except offering the neighbours to mow, otherwise you have to try and make your peace with the situation

a garden without a well kept lush manicured green lawn is not a garden ...

A garden with nothing buzzing in it is not a garden.

yup, that is my personal opinion .... no matter how small or large the garden, there should always be a section that has a neat manicured green lawn .... even in shade (there is excellent grass seed suited for shade)

I tend to many smaller gardens that have paving blocks with borders on the perimiter .... to me, there is always something missing .... and that is lawn

well I have quite a big lawn attached to my house and yes I do like it nice and tidy lawn but I always leave a small percentage of the lawn unattended to grow, I have a couple of clients who like their lawns nice a clinical with no weeds etc. but I’m not a fan of that, but to be honest with you I like a lot of the plants which people freely call weeds lol, but I think a garden can look to tidy, I think gardens should be rough around the edges a bit, but who am I to tell people what they should and shouldn’t have lol

                      Regards

                      Jack
