I think M & S still has a few nice things for women. It's just that you have to wade through piles of rubbish to find them. Those rails stuffed full of shapeless acrylic sweaters in nasty colours are a major turn off. But then M & S still tries to appeal to everyone, something other shops gave up on long ago. The 'Limited Edition' range for women is a bit more fashion forward and sometimes offers surprisingly good stuff.

Roders, the menswear is particularly naff, isn't it? It seems to be obsessed with Teflon coatings, as though core M & S male customers can't be trusted to eat anything without staining themselves. The 'designs' - if you can call them that - are terrible.

I hope it manages to turn things around, because I still think the quality of its clothes is pretty good.

The food areas have increased in size taking up clothes sales areas and on top of that every M&S must have a coffee shop (even in the small shops) taking up more space, usually the mens dept.:frown:
They haven't a clue who they are targeting.

The 'Autograph' range is ok, and the 'Limited Collection' occasionally comes up with some interesting stuff. I avoid 'Per Una'. Caitlin Moran is right to say that anyone who wears too much of it looks like they have just been released from some sort of mental institution. No one under the age of ninety should go near the 'Classic Collection'.

Oh dear Roders,I had better not put up a link of the top and trousers I have just bought from the Classic collection as you would probably tear it to bits:snork:

Good job we don't all like the same things:spinning:

Not much below it either Jen! I don't think I'd go the pub in that somehow.

                  A very accurate summing up!
I'm about the right demographic for Per Una which is probably why I avoid it like the plague - lots of polyester, turquoise and long witchy skirts. No ta, I'll stick to jeans and t-shirts.
When I go shopping (in real shops as opposed to virtual ones) I usually come away empty handed, being horrified by the dreadful styles, vile quality and exorbitant prices being charged. I usually decide that I could get exactly the same stuff - or better - on ebay for a tenth of the cost. The 80s revival hasn't helped as I have no intention of revisiting the hideous styles and colours that didn't even look good on me 30 years ago.

You're a girl after my own heart, Madahhlia. I've just bought an exquisite Toast silk top (still with tags, originally £99) for the princely sum of £12.50. The money went to charity, too, so I can feel doubly smug. :)
