    So I rang this company and said "I want a skip out side my house, the reply was, I am not stopping you"

    But in all seriousness, I am wanting to get rid of loads of "unused stuff" that I have found in the loft and wonder should I get a skip or not?

    Yes I know it depends how much stuff there is, but one bit of stuff ends up being more stuff than you thought you had, and that can go as well.

    So my question is, when was the last time you had a skip, how much roughly was it, and do you think it was worth it, or would you have been better off going to the tip yourself?

    sort some of it and take the better stuff to carboot

    some of the money you make will pay towards the skip to get rid of the rest of the junk

    also have all the stuff you want to go in the skip ready as people will start dumping there own stuff in it!

    A skip will cost you about £60 these days.

    Of the stuff you want to bin, is any of it worthy of going on eBay or even Freecycle? I know sometimes you just want shot of stuff and its not convenient to wait to see if someone wants any of it but its worth considering.

    I had a skip last August and it cost £100, but costs are different here on the island. Yes, it was worth it, a third of my house was being gutted at the time!

    If you haven't got too much that's heavy or bulky you may be better off taking it to the tip yourself, but that also depends on what a skip will cost you in the UK, if it's a lot cheaper than here then it's a no brainer. :)

    The last one I had was a 4yd skip Fri - Mon & it cost £85.. :SUNsmile:

    No, just a lot of rubbish (Most of it was here when we moved in xx years ago)
    Its also not so much weight, as bulk.

    I can recommend Hippobag if its any good?

    I found it more convenient than arranging a skip when I needed one last year, simply because you can walk into Homebase or Wickes and buy the bag (about £10-£15 depending on size), fill it at your leisure and then simply ring them to collect it when you are ready.

    I used the maxi-bag as I was replacing two carpets, and doing a load of other DIY, and it was easily sufficient.

    Collection can be arranged online or by phone, and is usually within a day or two of you requesting it to be done.

        I admit that I was dubious when I first saw the bags, but eventually bit the bullet mainly because I got fed up with the sucking air through teeth vague responses from local skip companies.

        The service from Hippo was really good, and quite often they will give you a discount on subsequent bags if you need more than one.
