I've bought one!!!:) it's only small about 18"high and in a 7" pot, my inclination is to overwinter it in the greenhouse but I'm wondering if it would be better planted out? any advice greatly received!!!

Don't know if it's any help but i have a Beni Schichihengi which is about 5 inches tall and it's been outside for over a year and doing well.

Do you give it any protection at all in Winter Scorpio?
I "smuggled" a tiny Red Acer dissectum sapling from under a friend's parent tree in Vancouver last June (2011). I potted it up and overwintered it in the unheated mini GH and it has spent the Spring and Summer outside and is looking happy. I know they are very slow growing but wish to know how to care for it in its infancy,
      thank you,
      Jenny

No i didn't overwinter it as my kitchen windowsill had 6 Oleanders lined up along it which have now all gone. I only paid £2 at last years Kent Garden Show so i wasn't too fussed if i lost it. I've got a couple of Acers which i just trim half way through the season to keep a nice shape and it seems to work. Don't let the compost dry out and give it a gentle feed once a year when new growth appears for which I use a 1/4 of the recommended dose of liquid Seaweed. If it's a scorching summer i also give a good soaking once a fortnight. I'm probably doing everything wrong and others might give better advice but the red ones do ok by it and they all get early morning sun through to mid afternoon with barely any burning.
