A lot of people like to garden, but not everyone has that "green thumb", so to speak. Do you have any examples of gardening that you've seen that simply doesn't pass the mark? Share a photo if you have one!

My neighbour once tried growing their own pumpkin patch, of which the vines started to take over my yard. I was not pleased, to say the least!

I wouldn't wish to name or take photos of any of my friends' gardens that would adequately fit the bill Astroturf.
But, you know their type of "gardening " by their throwaway comment of seeing yours. "Oh, hallo Jenny" - mega quick 180 degree scan of the garden - "that's nice. Isn't it cold out here, may I come in?"

There are plenty of examples of 'poor choice of plant' in my garden. Then I find it so hard to do the right thing, be ruthless and dig them up.

I consider myself to be a poor gardener to be honest, usually from the design point of view.

      Me too!
My garden tends to be full of feature plants in what I reckon may be the best spot for them. It's only when they bloom that I consider colour combos:gaah:

Likewise, I'm not into planning or design.

Didn't he have to chop it down in the end? The bloke was a nightmare for his neighbours.
It's only after 5 years of planting up, growing, moving, removing, sowing, seeding and watching that I have finally started to consider the colour combinations and how different forms fit together. And I suck at it!
That said, at least I enjoy myself in the garden and all the examples of 'bad gardening' are from those who don't really like the space anyway so don't put any effort in.

I'm the same, If I manage to keep something alive for more than a year, then It's good in my eyes, I have no colour planning.
I sow far too many seeds , my lawn has weeds

Sometimes it takes luck.. in the past Ive been too organised with the design of planting, and it never works, but of course you have to have the right design to fit in with a certain design of planting. Given my garden is in fact not my own garden is difficult for me, but still, I often wonder if I could do better. My own preference is canopies and underplanting in the small environment, haven't as yet been able to reproduce that effect however.

                This was soooooo stupid.

When i first started gardening i planted grass seeds around all of my plants in pots coz i thought grass would make more sense than having soil on show :wallbanging: :wow:...i still dont know what i was thinking it wrecked loads of plants :wallbanging:

A few years ago I decided that I wanted the border on the right to be grass so let it grow right up to the fence. Apart from anything else, the border was on a slope to impossible to mow properly and it was by a north facing fence, so didn't grow properly.

I have since reinstated the border and have planted first some Rhodos, which I subsequently moved to the front garden, then some Camellias. I always colour co-ordinate :nonofinger:

I am a bit like this too.
I love growing plants, and am fairly good at it. But when it comes to the creative side, I am not so good.
