Like you, Armandii, I don't have a faith but that doesn't mean I despise people who do. However, I'm not sure I'd equate belief with courage. It seems to be something that's either there or it's not. I have a feeling many of us are hard wired to need a god figure, much as pack animals need to idolise a leader. Obviously my wiring is a bit non standard. :heehee:

Now that's unusual for you, ClaraLou, but that sounds a little :patpat:, although I'm sure you didn't mean it to be.:snork:

No, I really don't mean to be offensive. Goodness knows whether there is a god or not. I don't think I have the answers. I just don't believe and never have. As a small child I was constantly in trouble for not closing my eyes and praying in assembly. :) But I couldn't, because it seemed like hypocrisy. I've always been fascinated by the way some people are equally certain that there is something there, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it turned out that, as well as all the cultural factors, there was something genetic about it as well.

Thing is we're debating the bleedin' obvious, things we know and understand. Is there anything left to understand or have the scientists discovered everything there is to know?
Before you completely dismiss mediums. There was a program on the telly the other night about a police department in the US (forgot what state) who used mediums to find missing people. Their searches had come to a complete dead end.
One man went missing and one woman drew a map of the area and put a cross where the body of that man lay. The police found that body in the exact place. Spooky eh?
In another case, another medium showed the exact spot where a murder victim was buried by a tree in their garden. You still don't believe do you lol.
I think there is scientific reasoning how they knew, but we yet don't understand the science.:coffee:

If it was "bl..... obvious", Robajob, we wouldn't be discussing the subject.:heehee::snork: I keep hearing all these tales and stories about a medium did this or that, or someone saw this or that and the person telling the story or tale is convinced it's fact and presents it as such....... and can't understand why another person raises an eyebrow and questions it.:snork:

I'm not convinced it's a fact yet because I don't know the reason for it, but there is a reason. There is a reason for everything. :blue thumb:

Example: We can't understand why a seemingly normal person would kill his wife and children. It's out of our comprehension isn't it?

Granted, Robajob, there is a reason for everything, but presenting tales and stories as facts. as some people do, doesn't help find the true reason.:dunno:

The case of some normal person killing their wife and children is not that rare as anyone would want but the circumstances and state of the person committing such a crime are not "normal", and a person doesn't have to be evil to do such a thing. The investigating Police have to comprehend the reason and circumstance of such awful crimes.
Comprehending and fully understanding the reason a person does such offensive acts doesn't condone it, but might help stop another similar crime. You have to understand Fear, Hate, Jealousy, Desperation, etc to be able to beat it. A father in a nearby town killed his young sons some years ago after separating from his wife and actually phoned her up to tell her what he was doing. It wasn't an act of a normal person but one who was emotionally disturbed and wanted to hurt and get revenge on his wife in the most painful way he could, whatever the price. It's a really, painful and difficult subject but comprehending and fully understanding it might send warning flags up in other future cases.

I've enjoyed reading this thread, although it's gone a bit off topic latterly. I have never seen a ghost, and I'm not sure I'd want to. However, other people have told me of their ghostly experiences, and I have no reason to disbelieve them. Some people are more attuned to such encounters than others, I guess.

I admire and respect anyone who can work in this difficult field of psychology. I am not strong enough to even contemplate what a day's work might comprise.

Unfortunately, doing the work that I do at the moment you cannot but hear of crimes that would darken the spirit and your belief in the world around you if you let it.
