And this one takes me back to 1958 when my friend Laurie London had an enormous hit with it in England and the USA. It doesn't sound quite so great nowadays :heehee:

She was South African and was exiled from there in 1959 for championing the cause of the black people. She wasn't able to return until Nelson Mandela invited her back when he became president. Even her records were banned but I managed to buy one of her South African LP's as they were clearing them from the shops (I was working out there at the time).

One of her songs that became popular over here was the 'Click Song'

and she does a good job of the song 'Sunrise, Sunset' from the musical Fiddler on the Roof.

Posting that song of Laurie London, who became the youngest UK male pop star, also reminds me of another friend around that time that became the youngest UK female pop star. Nostalgia gets you every so often! :snork:

Thanks, that was a very big hit (No 5) but Runaway got to No 1. :dbgrtmb: - I used to sell all these records on the market in the late 50's and early 60's :old:

You can play it by clicking on the centre of the screen when Hats off to Larry finishes.

The Ray Peterson version of this song wasn't released over here but was covered by Ricky Valance (he's Welsh :dbgrtmb:) and it shot straight to No 1. I think it was helped to get there by the BBC banning it and Radio Luxembourg playing it more - and having a go at the BBC for it.
