As you know I do have one or two plants in my garden and try to keep track of them. But in all the time I have had the garden and house, from new build, I know that I have only bought two varieties of Day Lilies and have never been given any, as while they are super plants they don't float my boat enough to make a collection of them and these are they below:

I bought this one a couple of decades ago under the name of "Spring Air" but Spruce kindly re-identified it as "Frans Hal"

I bought this one around the same time under the name of "Royal Oak" which Spruce again kindly confirmed as the name.

Now let me just say again I have only have bought two varieties of Day Lilies and have never been given any other Day Lilies. So when just checking the borders today I spotted this growing amongst the Rose "Crazy for You" which has been in the garden for around 14 years. These are all the pics I've taken of it as I am not a Day Lily expert but thought that those who are would need as much as possible to give me an answer.

I have divided both varieties over the years especially when I first started changing the garden to what it is now so there are little clumps of them around the borders. So is this a clump that has turned into a Sport?, or it is a clump that has regressed back to one of it's parents??? Which is why I need advice on this one as it is perplexing in the sense that I know I have not brought any other variety into the garden. If it is another variety can anyone identify it??

It could of been a seed made by the other two as frans hals does contain this colour.

I dont know if daylily's do "sport" not the Olympic kind:snork: as it would of been growing with Royal Oak out of the same plant or with Frans Hals

Lets see what Simbad has to say as well I will PM so sees the thread

Armandii its looks stuning , you wil be able to name it yourself

      Nameing thread next please

I must admit I do like it, Spruce. My hopes are that it is a new variety and maybe worth propagating and it would be nice to give it a name. I will wait to see what conclusion you experts come to.:snork:

Hello there, Spruce has asked me to get involved. Daylilies don't sport but occasionally they will seed and grow on in the garden. It is certainly a lovely glowy colour. I hope you enjoy it and it would be lovely to name it too.

If it is a new variety then I would like to register it under the Intellectual Property Patents.....at a cost of £280.:WINK1: :snork: I'm just wondering about the possibility of naming it and interesting a commercial grower as it is a really good colour:scratch:

Not quite, Jenny, it leans more towards orange.:dunno: It has the colour of Frans Hal but with some red mixed in there to get a lovely glowing orange, with the hint of a yellow/white stripe in the middle of the petal. The petal shape seems to be a compromise between that of both of them.:snork: I have got my thoughts on what name to call it but I think a Name competition would be nice, so in a day or two I'll post a competition for it.:snork:

Well, I can't say how glad I am that everyone likes the new Day Lily and that has confirmed my belief that I should patent and register it.:hapydancsmil: I'm still thinking it's a bit weird in a way where's it's grown. The two original Day Lilies have never been near that particular spot and there so many places where the new Day Lily could have seeded, but, no, it chose to grow amidst the Rose "Crazy for You" which is the one rose which was the favourite of my wife and I and there is a little story of how we saw the rose, fell in love with it and bought it that binds me more to that rose than any other in the garden.:love30: So there's a bit of "spiritual" coincidence there, I guess.:snork:
