Do you think high-phosphate for Cannas? (I've no idea, but I've been feeding mine with Miracle Grow for a slightly higher Nitrogen level to boost the leaves)

By the by, I bought some Chempak Tomato Fertiliser last week; whilst I think Chempak is a well fomulated brand, so wins hands-down on that front, I've always though it rather a luxury, but it seemed blinking cheap to me as, compared to the liquid-to-dilute brands, it seemed to make nearly 10x as much "mixed-and-ready-to-use" volume, which in turn made it litre-for-litre a lot cheaper.

Somewhat higher on Nitrogen that the other Tomato fertilisers nearby, but perhaps for Tubs and Flowering Plants that it more ideal?

        Hi Kristen

I have in the past fed a phoshate (Chempack) been reduced to £1.00 I thought bargain I will have that.
I used it on a lot of plants made the folliage too lush and reduced the flowers hostas got chomped big time , I remember the cannas leaves got torn by the wind so went back to tomato food/growmore , I know (phoshate) its good to use early spring as a boost though (fushia being a good example) so maybe its getting the timing right and not going over the top as I did but you live and learn .

This is a little bit of an old thread now Armand, at the start of year i thought that dividing it would be a good idea but was advised otherwise. Any idea when pretoria flowers it did not flower last year but it was tiny then?

Hi Hydrogen, hope you don't mind me dropping in on this thread but myself and Peters and no doubt a few others got spectacular results by "overfeeding" our Cannas last year, I got Canna Altensteinii to almost 12ft in height and with huge leaves and I know Peter got a similar variety to 8ft+. During the height of the growing season I was feeding perhaps 3 or 4 times a week; almost with every watering. I like using liquid seaweed and tomato Food, they also had a good application of chicken manure pellets around the base..:dbgrtmb:

the best year I had when I had about 6 inches of well rotted horse muck on them
and like Bilbo fed them non stop , then they all caught the virus :help::cry3:
