We typically don't watch the Olympics, prefer the winter actually.

But we always watch the opening. I found it quite bizarre with all the children singing then sort of got into things and must say I liked most of it.

I also didn't know most of the countries ... are they really countries ... ????? I thought I was good with geography but obviously have to go back to school at 64 as things have changed drastically ... :hate-shocked:

We love Mr Bean ... Rowan Atkinson lived near us at Waterperry and we passed his house, ie, by the front door, on many an occasion going to the garden centre bordering his house.

I am looking forward to watching our Mel tomorrow morning ...

For the most part, I think it was a fantastic production and was quite amazed and pleased with it all ... well done UK.

The stage thing that is meant to represent the British countryside is wrong. It is not full of bracken, brambles and gorse. There are people standing on wearing suits and dress shoes, yet so far nobody has fallen over and ended up covered in mud or cow poo, and I've yet to hear someone swear having just been nettled or got by a wild rose thorn. Its all wrong.

And where are the White Diamond cider cans and ciggie stubs, I'd like to know?

The guy doing the end spiel has just used the words 'vibrant, diverse and cosmopolitan' all in one sentence. Now he's babbling in French. Does he not know we're diverse, vibrant, cosmopolitan and thick as **** at languages?

Poor old Mohammed Ali looks as confused as Her Majesty. Ah well, Beckham to the rescue.

Now if Steve Redgrave could row and hold the torch at the same time I'd be really impressed.

Is 'Olympism' a word? I demand a dictionary check. Time for bed.

Well I must admit I'm suitably impressed. That must have took a hell of a lot of organising and planning, and meticulous testing and rehearsing etc. To pull that off is awesome.

All that said, as impressed as I am, I remember as a kid we were far more efficient at starting sporting events. We had ceremonies featuring such eloquent speeches as 'its to the second lamp post and back... ready steady go!', or 'right, your ride your bike at that ramp, jump over them three kids laid down on't pavement behind ramp, skid round lamp post at end o street, an first one back to our doorstep is the winner'.

I was very impressed too. As a cameo of british history and GB.co.uk it was on the whole very, very well done indeed. Not quite sure about the massive display given over to promoting the british NHS given the way it's being erroded from what it once was.
Was very proud to see our monarch jump out of the helicopter with 007 - bet that impressed the rest of the world!
