Continuing to clear out the loft (not too hot up there today) I have now got some "rubble sacks" to put stuff in.

    So far I have found:

Lots of small broken bits of timber (from what I know not)
Lots of odd cables (yes they are dead)
Rubble / broken mirror (1/2 sack of that)
    Three Tv aerials
Broken light fitting with lots of hanging glass "rods"
Water tank (ok, I understand that one, we had a new combi boiler put in when we moved in)
Old style pipe insulation (from old loft tank I guess)

But what I don't understand is the carpet. So far I have found 4 long strips of carpet that must be around 12 feet long and about 18 inches wide, off cuts they may be, but why keep them? (Oh all ghastly patterns)

Perhaps I should mention that's not counting our Christmas decorations and lights etc

What have you found in your loft?

I don't even want to know. Hubby is a pack rat and saves EVERYTHING. Nothing of any value though. God forbid he kicks the bucket before me and leaves it for me to sift through........ I'll KILL him!!!

Years ago, when I was still a kid living at home, my step sister had an aged cat which was considerably older than her (or me). From time to time it would disappear for a few hours, or even overnight but usually it would just hang about the house.

One time it disappeared and didn't come back. Nobody was too worried on day one. But the next day came and went and still no sign. Several more days passed, no sign. It was tactfully explained to my step sister that sometimes cats known when their time is up, and will wander off to find somewhere to die in peace. There was some tears but it passed.

A few more days passed and my step sister's room developed a rather unpleasant fragrance. At first we all put this down to her adolescent ways of not washing without being told, or leaving sweaty clothes and half eaten food lying around. Time passed, and despite efforts to removed all dirty crockery and sweaty clothes, the smell got worse.

After about 3 weeks, my step mother took the brave decision to search the room thoroughly, like a prison prison officer or similar, literally going as far as move cupboards that haven't been moved for years etc. She pinned the source of the smell down to some unidentified piece of rag under the bed. She pulled it out for a better look, and after the initial shock of a swarm of flies flying up at her face, it became apparent that what she'd found was a half decomposed kitty. It had wandered off to find somewhere peaceful to die it seems, under the bed, behind a pile of old clothes.
