I'm not a great lover of formal gardens, loveweeds, although I admire the work and planning that goes into them. I have weeds [wild flowers] in my borders as the insects like them and they add colour as well. I don't match colours or textures as you can see form my Threads on an amble around my garden, and it all adds to the informality that I like in my garden and yours.:heehee::snork:

Sorry, Jenny, forgot to reply to your query, it's not invasive and in in shadow most of the day and seems to like it there.:coffee:

a good informal garden can require as much planning as a formal one, just in a different way, depends what you want to achive. succession of flowering for example. or create a setting-just imagine a felled tree trunk, half rotted, with all sorts of foxgloves and ferns around or a boggy wildflower lawn with himalayan primulas and cuckoo flower and some figworth here and there). To make it more complicated -combine the setting and the succession thing. What will your tree trunk look like after all the foxgloves have expired. What will it look like in early spring. Planning...

Oh, I agree with that, loveweeds, if you were to take a picture underground in my borders there are several layers of different bulbs at the bottom with perennials and herbaceous perennials of top of those, all of which was planted over the last ten or so years, using the original garden plan as a base. I think the art in planning an informal garden is to make it look as though it's not planned!:heehee::snork:

It certainly is! When it's in full bloom they look great though.

This is definitely looking good to me - I've found flower buds forming on my Tricyrtis ishiana!

                  DSC_2733.jpg

My first year with this and it has a reputation (depending upon your source) of being a little tricky so I'm rather pleased!

                      Thanks!
It craves shade and moisture in a free draining soil, so it is planted (in the pot still) under this thirsty Willow............

I do have to remember to water it though.

Very late this year, Salvia "Black and Blue" is finally blooming.................

I wondered why there were 2 JULY threads :roflol:
This has not been my greatest growing from seed year . I lost all my salvias and thunbergias due to rust plus a few other poor results.....still always next year !
A couple of new bedding plants for me , the first was suggested by Sheal to go in a shady spot Mimulus Mystic , I got 4 lovely shades. The White which is actually more Ivory is our favourite . Thanks Sheal :dbgrtmb:
Second was a "miniature" Marigold , or so I thought , Starfire - 2 filled a container, not bad for £0.01 a seed ! Slugs love them though.
