Aww, it wanted to be near her when it went on by the sounds of it.

A plumber mate of mine was doing some leadwork on a roof when he noticed a tile out of place. He put the tile back where it should be.

A few weeks later, the client was complaining of magots dropping thru the ceiling.

He got back up & moved the tile he'd replaced, there were about 200 pigeons, all facing the blocked escape route & all quite dead:sad:

Poor things, but nicely linked back to the topic of what's in the loft.

Watergarden, your loft sounds like the mirror image of ours at our last house. The only addition of ours being millions and millions of tiny polystyrene insulation balls. Every time that the loft hatch was opened, the house would fill with the damn stuff. It wasn't until I knocked all of the lathe and plaster ceilings down, that it finally disapeared.

We just have wasps nests (old and new) in the loft of current house. They have to live somewhere, and I guess that our loft is as good as anywhere.

Just counted, have used 9 rubble sacks, all full of rubbish, that is not counting the carpet bits as they are too bulky to fit in a bag.

Tomorrow I am going up there with a hacksaw to get rid of these damn Tv aerials (they wont bend in half)

Had a wasps nest in the shed, no bigger than a golfball, it was very clever

Do you have a rag and bone man in your area? If you do, just put the arials outside. They are almost always made of aluminium, so good for weighing in.

We often have "scrap vans" passing by, they will anything with metal, I hadn't thought of them. (Thinking about when we had a skip the number of people that asked to look in it was so many (Obvious camera looking at drive) I put up a notice, "help your self" (They only took / wanted metal)

But carpets are not what they want, so I am looking at getting a man with van to take it to the tip, and point out a couple of bags have scrap metal..........

I here what you say, and my shed has a some stuff that will be useful one day, but I have learnt in most cases it never is. (Maybe one day the groat will become legal tender, I can hope :hapydancsmil: )

                ______________________________________________________________________
For an example sitting next to me I have 100m of "earth sleeving"
[IMG] Mine really does look just like this. It was almost cheaper to buy 100m from a well known "trade store" than it was to buy 10m from a well known diy store (Same company as well) But what can I do with what I don't want? (Rhetorical question) I looked on auction sites and there are lots of folk selling it, so why would anyone buy mine even if it is cheaper a stamp is still 60p then you need an envelope, so when I am sure I have finished my "latest project" I will bin it. (unless some one here wants it, but then there is postage.............)
Also my other half keeps stuff (so she thinks) but every so often I look to see what has not been used (or sometimes even empty) and it falls into the bin I happen to be carrying. If I didn't we could start our own chemists shop.

free cycle what you dont want, if you lived near me i would have the carpets as path covers up the plot as they would keep weeds down :dbgrtmb:

i have two attics one is a bedroom with christmas deccies under the eaves
and the other one is small but i think there may be a few sm boxes that the daughters didnt take when they moved out
( funny when it someone elses house they insist that it all kept when it comes time to take it they say oh you can keep it or throw it, im not bothered !)

chitting kaz, nice idea, but its not disposing of it that's a problem. (a pain, yes, problem, no) I just can't understand where it all came from (did I mention the box of nuts and bolts, and what looks like an electric cooker single hotplate) I wouldn't wish the bits of carpet on anyone, they are hideous, even Stevie Wonder would object to them.

                  We had similar problems Kaz.
All my daughters swimming medals, school books, kiddie books, ornaments etc. were kept in her old bedroom for 10 years+ after she got her own house(s) until she got round to taking them with her.
The Son had pop memorabilia (Heavy Metel), obsolete computer games, Electrical Cabling + misc hardware (he's an electrician)-this mass kept going up and down as he utilised it.
None of the above seemed to be moving, so eventually we sorted it and asked them to take it home with them or we'd dump it.
Surprise surprise - it turns out they don't want their "treasures" in THEIR houses.

When it came to clearing our my late parents' house, the 12 yd skip, turned out to be a gross under-estimation on my part, since it took just (but only just) the contents of the garage! The subsequent 10yd one was filled by the content of their loft. It was at that point I decided that leaving my daughters '.. a cash gift when I was gone ...' could probably be put to better use than being spent on a series of skips to clear out our loft - so I invited them to poke their heads up there, tell me what they wanted to keep and that the rest was destined for the tip.

So ..... my loft still contains ...

2 Doll's houses, plus occupants and an assorted array of furniture
The swinging crib (made by Dad and in which they all slept during the first few months of their lives)
One very old, 'nursing' chair (the first of my very unmaternal daughters to become a mother, gets that!)
A selection of car baby seats that I'm told I need to keep because 'they're sooo expensive these days' but probably no longer conform to 'elf 'n safety regs.
A 1970s Schreiber sideboard 'bagged' by daughter No. 2 for when she can afford her own house (will I live to be 110?)
Boxes of sheet music - none of them have played a musical instrument since they were at school but I '... can't possibly get rid of that' - apparently!
Boxes containing 3 sets of - largely different - school uniforms (suitable for ages 4 and upwards!), kept for the same reason as the sheet music.
Books - oh, so many, many books. Books we don't read but are far too good to dump or give away plus books for A levels: books for Clinical Psychology undergraduates and post graduates; books for business analyst undergraduates; books for PPE undergraduates and Politics and Security post graduates. All well out of date, all kept shut since well before graduation, all kept '... because they might be useful - one day ..' and all bunging up my loft!
                      Of our 'stuff'?
                      3 of Mr. F'smum's old briefcases containing ... I don't know and daren't ask!
One box containing school certificates belonging to Mr. F'smum and myself - including his City and Guilds Final Certificate in 'Furniture history, design and manufacture (Hand-made Furniture)' - the obvious qualification to offer the Foreign Office these days, and my RSA Stage 1 Arithmetic (which I didn't get until the third attempt!!)
And ... one box containing 'the' Christening gown I made for my daughters from my wedding dress

When it comes to sorting out our loft, they'll have no-one to blame but themselves!!
