Fish tower

Hi folks, I'm new here. I just built a fish tower.








The fish came in the tower as soon as I set it up. Before setting it up, I was not sure if I could make it. But it was very easy.....all I did is just put a plastic cup upside down on two bricks.

 

I like it, but won't the water warm up too much if the sun gets on it?

 

Hi Zigs, good point. It's not be exposed to direct rays of the sun. It's under a tree.

I ran across someone who had done it in his pond when I was surfing on the internet yesterday. I was inspired by him and tried it for myself. I had known the principle though. I had come to realize it when I had accidentally dropped a glass bin into my fish tank a long time before. (I guess lots of aquarium hobbyists also know the principle.) Then I had applied it to my hydroponic culture containers. It works well and I do not have to water my plants so often. I, however, had not applied it to any of my ponds 'cause I had feared my fish might die from lack of oxygen. But yesterday I saw someone who successfully kept fish in a tower. He said fish entered and left at will. So I just tried it.

There is nothing new under the sun.:-)

I did not intend to illuminate the tower this way at first, but I wondered if my fish entered the tower during nighttime, so I shine a flashlight on it. All I did is just put the flashlight on the tower. I didn't imagine fish and shrimp would go into it at night.

 

Maybe Mr Grinch could adapt something like this for his daughter!

 

Silly question, but then I know nuffink about stuff like this - how do you keep the water in the tower?

 

I let nature keep the water. Once you fill a tower with water at the beginning, the water is kept in the tower without your help. Google "Fishie Hi-Rise," and you'll find the detailed explanation/mechanism of it.
