I was thinking of trying to find a toad, but then the neighbourhood cats would probably just torture it so the slug traps it remains.

One drawback of putting dead slugs in your bin - the bin doesn't half whiff after a few days. I couldn't think what it was unti it occurred to me it was decomposing slugs. :eeew: Thank goodness it's collection day tomorrow!

I've been tempted to give those a try too. You're right too, the blighters do like the little new shoots. :gaah:

Someone said lillies were fine... My poor lily is being eaten alive. Even the petals have holes in it..

I have a feeling that this year, due to the sheer numbers of the horrid mobile bogies, plants that would normally get left alone may have been targeted.

I cut one in half the other night. It seems they are just bags of water, as it sort of deflated like a balloon as all clear juice ran out. It put me off my food a bit for a few hours.

Thanks for that. I just ordered one from Amazon. Probably the best £4.40 I`ll spend in a while.

I put out pellets a couple of days ago (organic/ pet friendly) and had some success. After they chomped 5 out of the 6 isotoma axillaris plug plants I put in, it was war.

They apparently eat lavender too...but so far not even an attempt on the pink i just put in. It is more established than the isotoma was so that might be why.

Hope it works well for you - only trouble is I'm having to buy beer now and I can't find anything cheaper than £1.32 a bottle. I keep scouring the supermarkets for special offers! I did try using coke the other night as I read that any sweet sugary drink would do but it didn't attract anywhere near as many to the trap.

Oh, and I actually caught one chomping on the new growth on one of the astrantias so I gave him a lift (on a trowel) to the "pub".

:) Same here when I first started emptying the traps, things like pasta and mushrooms just looked like slugs to me!

Oooh, wonderful, thanks Pam! :dbgrtmb: One of the men at work couldn't believe it when I said I was buying beer for the slugs. Strictly a wine girl, myself.

Big warning - lobelia (i had the Queens one - red leaf pretty thing) is Delicious apparently to slugs and snails! They have totally butchered mine.

Phlox is resistant though. So is my Solanum Crispum 'Glasnevin'.

Other than the blue pellets and beer trick is there anything else we can do to keep the blighters away, there must be some other tricks we have picked up over the years to keep them away [IMG]

              Very, very helpful thread!

But what a sad story Pianoman!

One I can add as being pretty impervious to slugs and snails ... Eryngium Gigantium 'Miss Willmott's Ghost'.
