    Evening all.

I've decided its about time I hosted a barbie at my house. Incidentally, if you happen to be in my area at the time, you're welcome to pop round:)

Its next weekend (ie not this coming weekend, but the end of next week).

Any tips? I can make burgers, and various snacks etc.

Any tips at all would be appreciated. Not just about the food, but everything, because I can absolutely guarantee I haven't thought of everything.

    Cheers for the invite Dave:dbgrtmb:

If i'm up that way i'd be honoured to attend [IMG]

I always made a stack of Vegieburgers in the days before you could get them from the supermarkets, basic mix of half a dozen eggs, mixed with veggie stock, garam massala, bit of marmite & what ever else was in the cuboard. Then fold soya mince into it till it was sticky & fry up burgers before hand so they were ready to re heat on the barbie.

Also used to wash everything up & make some vegan burgers just in case any vegans turned up.

Our Barbeque was an old metal water tank from the attic, with a grill over it. It used to glow red & was nice to sit around as darkness fell.

When I do mine, I always like to put Garlic Potatoes on the menu. Garlic butter over the spuds(cut to about an inch square), and slung in the oven for around an hour on a fairly low heat, maybe 150c. They love 'em:blue thumb:

I wouldn't have thought of hot dogs (see I said I hadn't thought of everything:), or indeed most of what you said.

I do have one bread based recipe though. I pinched the idea from a Cuban bar I used to frequent when I lived in exotic Sheffield. You take a nice crusty bloomer and slice it up. Then you warm it in the oven until it goes slightly crispy, but not brown. Drizzle with olive oil, then pasatta (sieved squashed tomatoes) then a sprinkly of chopped parsley, basil or coriander. Its simple yet delicious.

I always buy a bag of marshmallows and some thin keebab sticks. I love to poke them in the embers, roll 'em around and see if you can eat it without taking the roof of your mouth off first !!
Yummy, toffee smell/taste and a bag of 'em goes a long way,

That would kill it. The cheese would dominate the flavour and texture instead of the tomato and herbs and bread.

However, the cheese option is another idea I pinched from a different bar in Sheffield. Well restaurant really. Starting with the same bloomer cut into small pieces, cover in sliced tomatoes, drizzle with olive oil, then mozzarella then a chunk of basil on top. Stick it in the oven until the mozzarella melts just enough to stick all the topping together.
