It's open! we may get an indian summer!

Feeding mine with a comfrey tea feed, once a week, if not the biggest, maybe the most by weight? The Delicious are fruiting in abundance.:dancy:

I was concerned that somebody may suggest 30th Sept, the date of The GC Village Show, which may be too early as I know that although most toms will probably have reached their maximum weight by that date, but some will have been delayed by the bad weather and it would be a real shame to have to cut an unripe tomato for a weigh-in deadline without letting it ripen so the seeds can be saved for sowing the following year. Plus some are cross-pollinating different varieties and will want these to ripen to seed saving stage before harvesting.

I'll be saving seeds from the range of potentially giant tomatoes I'm growing this year and will again be making them available (as I did with Phil's Fantastic) to anybody who wants to grow giant toms next year.

Right you lot, I'm raising the bar a little higher now.
Picked a couple more of my Beefmaster today.
They've been duly photographed and weighed and here they are:
      DSC06646.JPG
The one on the left came in at 8½ ozs (250g), the one on the right topped the scales at 9½ ozs (270g).
These are two of my biggest ones, there are plenty more beginning to ripen on my plants, but most of them are smaller than these two. I think I may have peaked a little too soon here!
There is one however, lurking in the undergrowth, which is still green and looks as if it might beat both these two. You have been warned!

You got me worried there for a moment - I thought those two toms were sitting on a pallet until I looked closer.

Green is good - it means they are still growing. I don't think any of mine will be ready to pick until September.

Just found a new contender on one of my "Big Boy" plants, third truss fruit has doubled in size in two day, might not get the winning tomato but cheese and tomato sandwiches look on the menu in the near future. :dancy:
