Lidl Cactus

Lidl is selling a selection of cactus in ceramic pot , my miss bought me 2 nice cactus at £3.99
each , they really worth the price.
Tradescantia , Cyanotis, Rhipsalis , aloe, mammillaria, echinocactus , notocactus , eriocactus , howarthia and grassula.

the best for price was the echinocactus , seen the same size at ikea for £13 , I got one aloe and one notocactus , but can`t identify the aloe .

 

I bought myself a Rhipsalis from Lidl a couple of weeks ago, best £2.49 I've ever spent cheapest place I can find this plant is about £10 on eBay and that's smaller!



I got it ID'd as Rhipsalis cereuscula by a friend over on the epicactus facebook group, I might pop down tomorrow and see if they have any different species in

Thank you Sirius , lovely flower and perfect for my greenhouse can take -3/4 , the other cactus is a notocactus , really similar to mammillaria.

 

I grabbed a nice little (25cm) Aloe striatula for £1.49 in a sale area at a garden centre last week.

Not a cactus I know, but a nice looking succulent anyway.

 

Longk , aloe striatula it`s hardy to -12 , let it grow indoor this year and plant it out in a dry spot next year.

 

Exactly my plan! Going to grow it in the shed for most of the winter unless it gets truly arctic.
Got an area by the back door that should be sheltered and very free draining. Project for next spring. There's a Trachy there already that looks happy enough.

 

I find striatula becomes a climber after a year or two.
I'm hoping to get one climbing up my waggie stem, if you pardon the expression

 

Mine is in the garden , died down last winter but came back , thank you again Pete ,
once was a rare plant hard to find and now I`ve seen it everywhere , many specialist are still selling it for good money , but it`s now available in every garden center rockery section for around £3 .

If you keep Aloe striatula dry in winter, you will probably keep it going. I find it usually dies back if it gets wet.
