I took advantage of the warm weather to try to pull some tall weeds out of the borders without causing damage. Trying to get one foot in on bare soil was bad enough, but standing on one leg trying to pull out a stubborn weed is a recipe for something to get bent!! Plus I was having to watch carefully where I stood, moved or grabbed anything as the Bees were out in full force and on every plant.

Still, in the end, I didn't get stung, fall over or crush anything. But why is it that the weed you want to grab hold of is always just that bit out of reach from your finger tips?:dunno::coffee:

Well, it's a great design, Bilbo.:snork: That's what happened to me when I was building a seat out of a tree trunk without any real design in my mind, and ended up with the Arbour!!!:heehee:

Maybe we could start a new one on the first of every month so that it never gets too big?

Today is dry so far and I've deadheaded some roses and a Buddleia and then sprayed the roses with Rose Clear. Later I need to mow the lawn (if it stays dry) and prune the Wisteria.

Bilbo I love your wildlife house [IMG]

I mowed down most of the wild areas as nearly all the seeds had set. I first had to pick the seed heads of the cowslips so that I could sprinkle the seeds after mowing. All of the other wild flowers have small seeds that will drop through the grass as the mower goes along but the heads of the cowslips would have been sucked into the mower.

I would have preferred to wait until the seeds had dropped before mowing but the long grasses had seeded and the strong wind was starting to blow the grass seed all over the garden.

As the bee orchids haven't set seed yet I had to leave those areas and Mrs Shiney cut the heads of the grass by hand.

I also did a lot of cutting back of shrubs and trees - will soon have another bonfire ready.

I'm seriously considering evicting all my tomato plants out of the polytunnel and lashing them to the fence so they get some air around them. They aren't exactly excelling themselves anyway, so don't really have a lot to lose. Other than that, its just going to be a wee bit of weeding today I think, as I have one hell of a chest infection started.

Aye, you're almost definitely right Jenny. There has just been a massive rain shower here too, so I think that I should maybe take the hint and stay out of the garden today!

I hope your chest infection passes quickly FC :)

I've been to B&Q and bought some new pots so am going to pot up some roses this afternoon and possibly move some other plants into the new terracotta bulb bowls I bought.
