Just looked at the other thread and yes i agree it wouldn't be a suitable spot for a pond/pool but i was thinking on the lines of a 'shallow riverbed type thingy':dbgrtmb:...but that wouldn't house the fish....but you'd get allsorts of wildlife using it... Birds, dragon flies, frogs etc... :dbgrtmb:...it would be great:dbgrtmb:

Ordered and layed shingle in the wet area today. I still havnt decided what im going to do with this part of the garden. To be honest, i need a rest so probably a task for next year. The 20mm shingle just tidy's it up and lets the kids and me walk on it. This corner defo lacks height so im looking to put a couple of tall evergreen tree's in nice pots. Either Taxus baccata 'Fastigiata' or Cupressus sempervirens. These evergreen's would also add some winter interest.
I also weed and fed the lawn again. The last time i did it, 6 weeks ago really helped. It got most of the clover and greened it up. I still have a few patches of clover so had done it again to eradicate it. Pruned and dead headed also today.

        Hiya Mr G.

Just been having a look at the part which is causing the problem, the boggy bit. Would it help if you removed some of the soil and incorporated some aggregate of some kind into what's left, nearly top it up with some more aggregate, and finish it off with some aforementioned bark? This may well give you more options once the drainage has been sorted out. Just a thought...

        Cheers...Freddy

          Hi Freddy,
I dug down a fair way, probably a spade spit depth. It wouldnt really matter if i put aggregate in before the bark as it would still fill up and potentially the bark would spill over onto the paths and make a mess.
This way, it looks neat and tidy, it can be walked on with a relativly solid area. Yes it will fill with water still but at least the shingle will stop the kids and me from getting muddy and only a bit wet :blue thumb: and plus it would so obvious to look at.
Im going to leave it until next spring now. See what happens after an autumn and winter. Then re-assess !

          Hiya.

Well, when it comes to the time, and you really want to get rid of the water, I do have an idea, but it would involve some excavation:blue thumb:

Ive given up with this garden and the water Fred. Ive excavated until i have blisters !!

I remember when i first moved in, the autumn on 2005 and into 2006. A very dry winter and nice summer. Again, talk of hose pipe bans etc.. Even after weeks and weeks with no rain, i dug two test pits and within an hour they were full. I fear that i have a high water table in my garden. The whole roads the same. Keeps the grass green though, even in drought.

Mowed the lawn today. I might need to re-seed one area as the "top soil" was so crap, it just hasnt taken. It was more like compost. That will teach to go to a different nursery as their's was cheaper !! I also got a load of bamboo sticks out and marked the bare area's just in case i forget for next spring.

I love it, and even though your neighbors are close by, it still looks peaceful.

              Great job!!

Its getting there Pen. It just needs a bit more height in certain area's and the plants to get established and im half way there.
The Buxus that will surround the lawn though will have to wait until the sprogs are older :blue thumb:
