How exactly do you get caught?
The kind of people I see around here would just disown the dog immediately.
They would obviously be looking after it for a "friend".

I contribute my hard earned money for all kinds of things I never use, libraries, leisure centres, football pitches, there are lots of things we all contribute to, regardless as to whether we want to or not.

I just cant see how charging large amounts of money for dog ownership to the law abiding people of this country will stop those that couldn't give a toss.

I'm willing to bet most of the dodgy characters I see around here with large dogs are actually on benefits, so would just claim back any licence fee, should they actually bother to apply.

It cant, unless you spend a lot of money.

And I dont see why, those of us that look after our dogs well, should pay through the nose to sort out the minority of bad "owners".
I agree its a problem, but as with all these kind of things, knee jerk reaction, and the law abiding end up suffering.
I for one would seriously consider if it was worth keeping a dog if something like robajobs idea was put into practice.
      Vet bills are already extortionate.

But a massive dog licence is actually more likely to make matters worse in my opinion.

This is a hard one Pete and you're absolutley right...lets face it the 'laws' aren't really working for humans IMO so animals don't stand a chance.....and with total respect i agree with Robajobs but thats our world and sadley not the majority:sad:

There are dog wardens here on the island and we never see a stray.

Robajobs, I agree all dogs should be micro-chipped. It should be done at birth and the cost put on to the eventual owners, so there is no avoidance.

Do you actually think that most of the problem dogs, and problem owners are coming from law abiding breeding.
I'm finding it hard to get my head around the fact that everyone just thinks its ok to price the good owners out of the market.

There are plenty out there breeding all kinds, selling to all kinds and making money.
Do you actually think that kind of person is going to get the puppies chipped??

They wont, and who is going to go round checking for chips in a dog?

I realise it's not foolproof Pete, but it would certainly improve on the situation that's in place at the present.

Hi Pete, I know, it's just like the government proposals to increase the price of alchol for everybody because of binge drinking. I don't think it's good...but what is the solution?

My thought are the same on this as they are regarding binge drinking, (as you mention it), and the likes of gun ownership, etc.

Laws are already there to tackle these problems, but if nobody bothers to uphold them, there is no point in making new ones.

                    What a nice doggie, Robajobs.
Looks like a Wheaten Terrier to me.
