The dear old Civil Service (like what I work for) has always been conscious of it's need to be 'PC' - over the years we've been at pains to drop the word 'terminal' in favour of 'life limiting' illness, the 'wheelchair bound' have become 'wheelchair users' and 'mentally disabled' (please don't ask what came before that!) was replace first by 'learning disabled' but are now 'those with learning difficulties'.

So a few years ago when people of African origin made it known they'd rather be referred to as 'black' (as opposed to what was then considered the more polite 'coloured') we switched . A while later we began referring to the 'black and Asian' community; 'ethnic minority' was used for a while, but since they were no longer a 'minority' (and the term itself was considered un-inclusive and thus un-PC) they became known as 'those of ethnic origin'.

However, proof (if indeed proof were needed) that you can never take these things too far or be too over-the-top, three times during the last week pieces of paper have crossed my desk containing what is clearly, the new phrase of choice ..... 'those of visible difference'. :thud:

It would be far too un-PC for me to mention here the comments that little gem elicited, I will content myself with leaving it to your imagination!

in my line of work they are now promoting the phrase
      "DIF'ABLED" instead of "DISABLED"

i can remember when it became non PC to say brain storming for fear of it upsetting the Epileptics in this world, My son and his support group thought that this was ridicules to think that they would be that petty and that it would only draw negative reaction from people (he is Epileptic) he said i bet some Twit in an office thought that up and has never even met or spoken to one of us

              Whoopie!!! :dancy:

Some more stupid phrases for me to take the pee out of when I go to meetings :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

I've already told the female chairman of one committee that I would only call her 'Chair' (which she was insisting on) when she could show me that she had four legs! I also objected when the chief engineer of the Council reported to a meeting about problems with some of the manholes - and I said they should be called people holes!

See, I don't only swing one way! Whoops, not allowed to say that :heehee:. I'm bi-partisan :dbgrtmb:

A friend works at customs and they are not supposed to ask for a black coffee in case it offends people of ethnic origin, so must ask for a non-white coffee, madness!

The great achievement of politically correct nitwits is that they are steadily stifling the art of conversation. Legions of subjects are no longer discussed because of the offence they might possibly give to over-sensitive pillocks.

Those of a visible difference? That's about seven billion people.
I know,I'll just call them other people.

Nothing wrong with being different - except to some people. :heehee:

Zigs, you may want to move this to 'The Muppets...' :)
