Wickes GP compost 2012

Scrungee, it's still rubbish!

A few weeks ago I went to Wickes and they had the compost in the same bags. Funnily enough, they had one pile of them in the entrance and another pile of the at the exit. The sign at the entrance said they were £13 for four bags - the sign at the exit said £12 and had the old notice attached saying it wasn't suitable for seeds.

Both lots of bags said it was suitable for seeds (the old printing on the bags) and they had the same bar code number. So I asked to speak to the manager. He said that they had reformulated it and the old warning sign, and the £12 offer, shouldn't be there. I asked him to double check and he came back saying that it was OK now and I can have the bags for £12.

I got them home and guess what? They were still the rubbish and we now had a very unhappy Shiney. I phoned the manager and he put the £12 back on my credit card and told me to keep the bags.

I'm not even keen on the stuff for pots . The advertising originally said that this formulation would retain the water better. It definitely takes more water but seems to loose it much quicker. So I'm only using it in large pots and using it one part to two parts good compost.

 

Scrungee, I was in Wickes today (bought something else ) and, although the vouchers say you can only use one per transaction, I was able to use all mine on the one transaction. When I asked (don't ask, don't get) they said they were happy to take them all as they wanted to get rid of them all as soon as possible.

 

You would need proof of the offer for sale - but an offer for sale, in itself, doesn't mean they have to supply it to you. In the scenario you set, they have agreed to supply so they should fulfil their obligation, so your assumption is correct. Having said that, the big companies are normally excellent at customer service when there is a problem at their end so you shouldn't have trouble anyway.

 

Well I've maintained an open mind on the compost as 'you never know...' but have found the results from growing in the Wickes 2012 compost to be spectacularly poor. Nothing I've tried to grow in it has done much at all, showing a severe lack of foliage and/or flower / fruit. It's the pits.

 

But they're, again, selling the same rubbish without the notice!!!! Unless the company has put the notice back up since I demanded my money back. Even with the notice, the compost isn't doing much good for established plants either. I've just chucked it on the flower beds.

 

To be fair to Wickes, when I complained they gave me my money back (onto my credit card, over the phone) and told me to keep the compost. Good customer service but doesn't solve the problem.

 

I'll check our one next time I go by. If they haven't got a notice up I'll have a word with the manager.

 

I was using it for potting on and normal planting up. Oddly the seed sowing worked fine!
