    You're right Freddy, a selection of small cherry ones, pear shaped and bigger ones. I love them too so I grow different colours; reds, blacks and yellow :snork: which all have their own unique taste. The black ones are savoury whilst the yellow are not as tangy as the red colours :dbgrtmb:

        I've just taken one of my stem rot diseased tomato plants to the 'Advice' desk at RHS Wisley for a diagnosis. Sadly the lady on the desk knew what the problem was before I'd even opened the black bin bag. She insisted it was blight and was 100% certain even though I'd explained that blight wipes out a crop within 48 hours and mine had lasted 3 weeks and were still bearing edible fruit. After she had finished patronising me, she agreed to get one of the plant physiologists to take a look at it. I will be informed by email. Hopefully the back room people there will have an open mind and a microscope.

              Yes it's on the doorstep so I popped there at lunchtime. Had a quick look in their model vegetable garden and guess what, they spray all their tomatoes with copper compound, the leaves are blue they must spray it on thick! So no sign of any nasty diseases. Also popped into their Library and took out a couple of reference books about plant diseases, a bit of light bedtime reading :coffee:

                In the past, I've used Bordeaux Mixture for blight, specifically, but I guess it's useful for all sorts of fungal diseases?

                  I've used Bordeaux Mixture once before and noticed that it kept away the Grey mould (Botrytis) that usually sets in towards the end of the season so I think you're right Freddy.

                    There's something nasty lurking on my outdoor toms, probably blight but there's something else too I think, as the tips of some are looking a bit squiffy. I've had blight before but contrary to what John JFK has found I've found it takes several days to really zap the crop.
                    I'll try to post some photos tomorrow and see what folk suggest my poor wee toms have caught :gaah:

                      Picked the last of my Maskotkas that weren't blighted....can't complain though ...they were freebies:dbgrtmb:....looking at my toms...Alicante....they're looking better than i've given them credit for:dbgrtmb:....i'm still waiting for that 'warm tomato straight from the greenhouse sandwich though'...:)

                        My first ripe Gardeners delight for 2012. After last years total failure this is good.

                        Theres promise of loads more to come. These are growing in my conservatory. I started them off outside but the bad weather in June prompted me to bring them in and they have been enjoying it ever since. I have had to cut off the tops as they are now up to the roof line.

                            Looks like I've a touch of blight on the outdoor crop of Gardeners delight and Floridity though I'm not 100% certain that it's blight affecting the tip of one plant. I gave the plants a dusting of bordeaux a few days ago but I think I'll make up a solution and give them a spray after removing any spotted leaves. So far I've only had two ripe toms off this lot and they've been very slow to swell and I'd like to leave them as long as possible before digging up the plants and picking to ripen indoors. Some plants are showing no signs of infection so I'm keeping fingers crossed that I can delay picking.

                            I have a garden centre directly opposite my work, which I am usually too busy to visit, however as today was my last day before starting my holidays, and I was completely up to date with everything, I took myself a wander..............

                            I couldn't have been in the door more than a minute before I spotted the half price Sutton's seeds offer, so inevitably I came away with a paw full, three packets of which are for next years tomato crop.

                            I decided to go for Ailsa Craig (to be grown outside) 79p, Marmande (also to be grown outside) 79p, and Faworyt Beefsteak (£1.07) to be grown in the polytunnel (or greenhouse, as I may go for one instead of a new cover for the polytunnel - but that is a whole different thread).

                            So, did I do good?
