Stop press.... Tesco's are selling "Cour de Buer" tomatoes at 99p each!

Wish I knew that last year when I had a glut of them....... Didn't bother this year 'cos the "Big Boyz" were bigger ! :oopss:

I've got my first Delicious ripened today, weighing in at a measly 170g:

It's a start, I'm hoping for much bigger ones to come yet, but still no megablooms.

        Hi folks.

If there's a comp next year, I might be inclined to join in:blue thumb::) It'll be interesting to see the outcome, and if there's a tom that has the 'winning' ways;)

Tomatoes will actually weigh less if less if left on the plant until fully ripe. If picked when they start to 'blush' they will weigh more plus they can be left to ripen for seed saving/eating.

At last my greenhouse toms have started ripening:)

Biggest so far is a Big Boy weighing in at 216gr/7.6oz. I'm not bothering entering that one because I have another larger Big Boy and a Delicious that are still bulking up, just hope they don't start ripening any day soon!:please:

My Delicious x Big Boy mating failed miserably, think I'll try a BB x Big Zac next year, if I can get some verified Big Zac seed.....

Funds permitting, hoping to build myself a dedicated tomato/pepper "house" (posh polytunnel) for next year, may come to nothing but ALL us veggie growers can but dream?

                Decent weather would help? :please:

That would be nice Vince, are you planning on a brick based one with nice wooden windows?

Would be my ideal Zigs but alas funds dictate otherwise (and I'm a very poor bricklayer truth be told)

Thinking more of building a timber base and utilising some (lots) of aluminium greenhouse bits that I have in abundance, bought a 2nd hand 12' x 16' greenhouse of ebay a few years ago, far too big for my garden but got it cheap and well worth it for the price for the glass alone.
