    Unusual things you have done that you would recommend to others?

    Most of the ones that I see in lists, which I have done, I would not recommend as "must do's" to other people. In point of fact I can only think of 2 or 3 things that would be on my list.

    For example, there are plenty of places which I've been too and which I have really enjoyed, and would go back to, but "You must go there" ?? ... not many, if any, of those ...

    So what's on your list that you have done that you would recommend?

    My Mrs kept on at me for years about going on a cruise. Thing is, I'm a miserable old git that doesn't want others trying to get me to join in. Just leave me alone to be miserable sat in a corner somewhere, and I'm quite contented. Anyway, I relented (funny how wives can have that effect ain't it?)and we booked a cruise called The Crimean Discovery. As the title suggests, it was places that had some connection with the Crimean campaign, Charge of the Light Brigade, that kinda thing. I have to say that the whole experience was terrific. The service, the food (eat as much as you like:)), the entertainment, and most of all, the places visited(and the history therein) all added up to the best holiday I've ever had. I was totally immersed in the whole thing, and forgot about the normal problems of day to day life. I really DID get away from it all:blue thumb: Many folks will have this image in their head about cruises, but I found it very relaxing, and not at all too formal. Indeed, one can take or leave anything on offer, YOU choose!

    Cheers...Freddy

      we are tragic this morning, Kristen...
      Anyway, my thing is to get to tidy up the house and keep it spotless. I will be a very happy lady if I can create that.

      Reminds me of asking my wife's Grandmother (aged 90+ at the time) "What's the best thing you ever did?" to which she replied "Going to Acapulco" (she went on a retirement cruise with Grandpa)

      So then I asked "What's the thing you most regret not doing?" to which she replied "Not going to Acapulco a second time" !!!

        Yellowstone Park is my all time favorite place I've been. It's beautiful and amazing. The animals, the countryside, the geology, the history, everything! I doubt I would EVER get tired of visiting there!

                I always wanted the following:

                * A nice semi detached house with gardens
                * Some land
                * A wife that loves me
                * A kid that waves bye as I leave for work and greets me when I get back in
                * A car

                I've got all of it, so I guess I'll have to save up for a motorbike now.

                  My Godson was taught that it would be nice to do that when guests arrived "Clap when they arrive, wave when they leave". He found he got a much better response when he did them the other way round!

                    I think the only thing I've done that I'd really recommend (to other women anyway), is to be a wife - if you've a loving husband so much the better - and to be a Mum, if you can.

                    I'm lucky to have the former and (I think) even luckier to be the latter. Anyone with children young or older, knows what it takes to get them from that red, angry newborn to confident, funny, intelligent adults - it wasn't all easy but I wouldn't have missed one minute of it for the world (well, maybe the odd minute now I come to think about it :heehee: )

                    As for, do that, see this, learn the other? No, not really, I've done things and thought ... why? Travelled half way round the world to see things and thought .... is that it? (McDonalds and Pizza Hut next to the pyramids at Giza springs to mind) and spent countless hours learning something I never made use of.

                    The only other things I'd recommend are .... take pleasure in simple things, do the best you can, make someone happy and be content.

                      I too have lots to be proud of in our kids, although my part in their creation was modest (although if asked I always say it was exhausting ... :) ) so I'm with you there, from a Dad's perspective.

                      I agree with you on the travelling too. I'm lucky enough that there are not many parts of the world I have not been to, but in the main I get an equal amount of pleasure from some gorgeous English countryside as I do from amazing coral & reef islands. If you want to go somewhere, fine I'll recommend some places, but the rest of my travels, whilst frequently amazing, of huge interest, and often breathtaking, don't give me many other places where I would say you must go there.

                      My one exception is the African plains - Masai Mara in Kenya or Serengeti in Tanzania. Its like Attenborough on steroids, and not something that can be captured on film. The huge wide open expanses are reminiscent of the beginning of time, the huge herds of animals, and the Wilderbeast in single file along the horizon as far as the eye can see, and up-close-and-personal with Lions and Elephants et al is very special.

                      Other things on my must-do list is seeing a Total Solar Eclipse (99% of totality is NOT enough :) ), and seeing Saturn's Rings through an amateur telescope.

                      There are some London West End shows that I would, looking back on them, be disappointed if I had missed them. Lion King is, for me, the best of all the ones I have seen, and Stomp is a close second. But when I talk to other people they have different favourites, so it's probably subjective. Certainly seeing one of the major West End productions (something with amazing stage-craft) is something that I would encourage folk to do.

                      But the stuff that I see on published lists along the lines of Fly First Class, Drink a really expensive bottle of Bubbly/Wine ... are things I have done and are on my list of pleasures, but not my list of recommendations
