      That's a tough question

I agree that it's very subjective and some of the things that I've done have turned out surprisingly wonderful - but to recommend them? I don't know!

With regard to West End Shows I find that I'm almost always surprised at my own reaction. I remember that in 1958 I went to the dress rehearsal of My Fair Lady at the Theatre Royal. It had the original Broadway cast of Rex Harrison, Julie Andrews and Stanley Holloway. It was absolutely superb and I thought that, when they changed the cast it could never be so good - but, of course, it was.

Over the 7 or 8 years the show ran I went to see every change of the main cast members (and some times inbetween - I got free tickets :)). Each change brought a slight difference in the way the character performed but it was equally as good. Although I thought that when Wilfred Hyde White took over from Robert Coote as Col. Pickering he did a much better job.

Similarly, when Alfie Bass took over from Topol in Fiddler on the Roof I thought he would never ladt - but he did.

World travel is the same - totally subjective. Stick me on a sandy beach in the Caribbean and I would hate it - although some of the islands are worth visiting for the culture and scenery. Whereas, trekking through the sands of the Atacama Desert was superb - but a lot of you are likely to hate it.

As Kristen says, most people would love the African game reserves (you want to look at strongylodon's recent thread :dbgrtmb: ) and there are lots of other wonderful places to go - but my favourite place to visit is The Lake District (but wouldn't want to live there).

Family, friends, home and doing things that you like, in my opinion, must come top of the list.

If I was given a choice of somewhere to go I would have to pick the big island of Hawaii. One thing I have ALWAYS wanted to see is Kilauea while it's erupting. I want to see it at night as well as getting as close as possible. I just find it really fascinating!

We have just done one of our must do's and visiting Thailand and Singapore in the '80's was a dream realised.

              Flying over Monument Valley, incredible.

Visit Las Vegas and see how a desert can be ruined, an unforgetable exprience and needs to be seen to be believed.

A walk round Kew gardens should be on everyones list, a simple but necessary pleasure.

"Just one more WORLD cruise on the Grey Funnel Line"

Serving in the Royal Navy I circumnavigated the world several times on big grey warships (the grey funnel line) When we got to a port it was not just the standard cruise ships eight hours in port but one or two weeks :-) Each cruise lasted between two and three years

Laterley it was on big BLACK warships and saw nothing, not even daylight for three months at a go

That almost matches the description of the legendary island of Avalon.

Really funny I come from a town that used to be called nuceria alfaterna , wich we where enemy of the pompeiani, my city got covered from vulcanic ash in the same way of Pompei and absolutly full of treasure , but all covered by buiding.
My other part of the family is from Catania region , where the etna is , so when I go back to Italy I do both , Sicily and Campania.
this is the pagan temple of Saturno , god of the war , about 200 yard from my house

I like looking around places like that. I could NEVER go on a hol and just sit by the pool all day. How boring!! Go do and see things, try the food etc!!

Not the fact that I`m Italian , but to admit that Italy is an affashinating place , full of mistery ,scary places and history , I would say too much of it that Italian don`t care about and it`s really upseting.
                            look at places like
                            catacombe di palermo
                            Palermo
                            siracusa
                            taormina
                            agrigento
this is just Sicily , peoples don`t even know that there are 9 piramids around the etna , called the black piramids because made out magma , 3000 bc and no one even care about it .

I've lived on this island for twenty years and never seen it from the sea, apart from leaving Douglas harbour. On 15th September my daughter and I are doing a round island trip on an old steamer with our camera's and I'm looking forward to it. :)
