    Hi Wylie

I was going to ask if any difference in what the parent passes on , very interesting .
As you know I have crossed Gold Elephant with Rocket Booster both ways and have a pod on each I will make sure I put a "P" for pollen .

Both of the above look really great

Ps glad you like my photos :ccheers:

I was out doing some weeding yesterday and found another scape on one of this years seedlings! I pinched it off so it can continue to get strong for next year:spinning:. I still think that if you haven't in the past tried to put a few dormant types in the ground, you should at least try. There are people in Wisconsin who have nothing but field grown seedlings. I know how lucky I am that I don't have to pot anything past March /April. I have also read on www.mydaylilies.com how some people plant their seeds in the ground after the first frost for germination in the spring:huh:.
(If you hadn't heard, Daglelie just became a grandmother for the 2nd time)

In spite of some useless rain, the type that gets only the top 1/4 inch wet and leaves the soil dry under that; several flowers opened and their pollen got wet, so no crosses today:frown:. I have bought some seedlings from others, and one opened today with 2 flowers and looking very good:
    Eder 0085-05 sdlg.JPG
This is by Armin Eder who has several registered ones. He is in Germany and his season is short, so he doesn't get many reblooms. But this one is reblooming in my garden, and looking better than the first time. Because I have so many that are able to rebloom, it is a trait that I find important.
I got a better looking example today of the cross Old Termite x Emerald Starburst:
    Old Termite x Emerald Starburst.JPG
It has that strange colour found in Trahlyta and the extended throat of Emerald Starburst, but not the green center I was hoping for - maybe next year.
    Then there is this:
    Wild Horses x Heavy Metal.JPG
Wild Horses X Heavy Metal. You might call it apricot, but I always think of cantalope. This opened in its first year, struggled to open this year, and is now reblooming. The other seedlings of this cross show a wide variation in colour, from yellow to orange, and the eyes have big differences, from this one that is solid, to one with a pattern, and another that is more fractured.

Which parent will they take after for dormancy Wylie, assume its probably the pod parent ?I've just searched all my seedlings on Tinkers and only have 2 were both parents are dormant in fact most of the others are either semievergreen or evergreen, and typically the 2 are smaller ones that were later germinating 'Bob's Baby' x 'Trifecta' and 'Jerry's Whirligig' x Angel Falls' , don't think I dare risk them in their first winter:redface: with them only being small, after my catastrpohe a couple of years ago when I lost every one barr 2 , did ask Pollies advice and she said she usually leaves till the following spring, mind you I did have some self sown seedlings for the first time ever after our really cold winter, here's my list of seedlings if you fancy having a google sometime

Go to YouTube and do a search for: daylily Dan Hansen . This December and Feb. I will go out with my planting guide and write down what the new seedlings are doing for habits. Anything can happen - 2 evergreens can give a dormant, and I have seedlings that should be dormant and are evergreen. What is registered is how the plant acts in the Hybridizer's garden. I tend to get seeds and plants from those that grow in Florida and Louisiana because my climate is close to theirs. I will get those in the Spacecoast series because Kennibrew (and Hansen, Stamile, and Lambertson) lives in Florida, and I stay away from the Topguns series because they come from the much colder state of Oklahoma. Your list should keep me busy for a while:biggrin:.

It isn't often these days that one of my seedlings open for the first time, but today I had 2! The first is one of a group of 9 seedlings. That may seem like a lot of the same thing, but the other day I harvested a pod of Fata Morgana x (Scatterbrain x Big Kiss) that had 20 viable seeds - I'm hoping for a dark purple double. But this is Blue Oasis X Unk.:
            Blue Oasis x Unk.JPG
At 6", it gets noticed. But then I had another seedling open for the first time. This is a Dream Legacy sdlg, but is a disappointment because instead of a cream self, it is a dirty yellow and not worth keeping. But on my way to look at it, there was this other one that I hadn't seen before:
            Cobraskin Necktie x Unk (2).JPG
It is hard to make out, but it is a rich, ruby red with a purple/pink halo and yellow to green throat.
I will be spending today and tomorrow staking my best scapes as Tropical Storm Gordon is expected to pass just to the south of us Sunday night bringing winter storm strength winds. Not a problem in winter, but I expect several scapes to be destroyed, to loose pods that are ripening, and to have many buds blown off by the wind; depending on what direction it hits from.:runforhills:

Fortunately Hurricane Gordon (Catagory 2!) has slowed and is falling further south, which will take it over the island of Santa Maria, so maybe we won't get too much here. Still, everything is that strange calm before the winds hit. But it didn't stop several flowers from opening. Merry Moppet opened as bright as always:
              Merry Moppet (3).JPG
It is a terrific reblooming TET, only 4 " across.
But contrast that to Regent's Line:
              Regent's Line.JPG
On page 2 of this thread is a photo of Double Gardenia x Heavenly Pink Butterfly. Compare that to its sibling which started reblooming today:
Double Gardenia x Heavenly Pink Butterfly.JPG
Neither are double or have the eyezone of HPB, but still nice. The leaf in the foreground shows I have been practicing my martial arts skills by spraying with a bug killer called Karate + :heehee:
