I knew there was some place I haven't been!!!! That would be interesting. Can you see Cassini's Division with your scope? :dbgrtmb:

Now, that's one place I would recommend. Apart from Volcano National Park there are some interesting sights on the island. If you ever get a chance to go then let me know (I wrote a short guide book about the island).

There are a number of interesting craters as well as the eruptions that may be occurring.

The Hawaiian green turtle is a protected species and, in theory, if a turtle comes out of the water onto the beach (to bask) you are supposed to keep at least 20ft away from them. They're used to people and you can swim with them - still supposed to keep 20ft away.

Some beaches have religious meaning and are protected by their gods

        Some good choices there :dbgrtmb:

If you manage to do them then make sure you can give enough time to it.

New Zealand is quite easy to do and they hire out mobile caravans and it's easy to get around.

Madagascar is fascinating but not easy to get around - and it's the fourth largest island in the world.

You should add Peru, Chile and Brazil to your South American list (and the Galapagos islands if possible).

You want me to bring the BIG scope then? !!

Although in all honesty the scope has been neglected the last few years, and is in need of re-mirroring, so "probably not", but I used to be able to, on a night with good viewing (no atmospheric disturbance). The view of the rings in my 6" Dobbie (£100 off eBay) is sufficient to impress - if you've only seen Saturn in Photographs before.

I heard someone, somewhere (possibly here even??, and quite probably not Hawaii) saying that they stayed on a beach with Turtles and the staff dug them up and helped them to the water to improve their chances - and that was then a spectacle for the Punters.

I'm prepared to be impressed with your 6" and not your BIG one:heehee:

It's quite likely that the turtles are helped but I haven't heard about it on Hawaii. Although the Institute on Hawaii breeds the green turtle and puts them in the sea. The strongest ones get released on July 4th at a ceremony called the Turtle Independence Day. They have homing beacons attached so they can be tracked by satellite.

It's quite an interesting ceremony and they have traditional dancing and music before they're released. After the music and dancing they bring the turtles along and children carry them, carefully, in hammocks to the sea.

There is only one answer to this - be truly happy.
If you are able to leave this world and say yeah, I made the most of the life I was gifted with then there is nothing more you could have done, so I guess have no regrets is my answer :new:

While it was never on my wish list, 2 years ago an opportunity presented itself to spend 3 weeks in China (voluntary work) teaching. Such a great opportunity and an amazing experience; I would certainly recommend it!!

I went back to take my GCSE's, A-level equivalents and have just graduated with a Bachelors Degree (Hons). Not bad for someone who grew up being repeatedly told how "thick" I am :blue thumb: No other academic experience could beat that moment in the Cathedral, with my sons looking on, when the Dean shook my hand. Actually, it even eclipsed the time I was presented with an award for bravery a number of years previously.

Last week, I took myself off for a few days on the spur of the moment. I didn't travel far, about an hour or so away; booked myself in a B&B and then spent the next three days exploring the surrounding area. Funny thing is, as amazing as China is and as wonderful as that experience was ... experiencing a part of my own County and absorbing the views, the unique little shops in the villages reminded me that we can search the world and yet still find little pockets of paradise "just around the corner".

Yesterday's "do before I die" ... to find two cherry tomatoes on tomato plants I never planted! (Thank you chicken compost :dbgrtmb: )
