How much work is involved with making sure they don't self pollinate? You must also have a problem making sure that they are isolated enough to not to cross pollinate with the wrong plants.

That's why we try and keep the same, good, plants for a number of years. We're never sure of the result when we take seeds from the chillies.

Not a massive amount, crop petals before buds open but just before the flower opens, remove the pollen makers and im using a gel cap filledd with pollen from the white hab give it a little tickle every now and then until it sets, if it doesnt try again!!
To protect from any x pollination thats not required im building a frost cloche and cane frame :):) its my first crossing attempt so hoping all will go well

My first year trying chillis (can't remember the variety and it's dark) - I have plenty of fruit for a small plant, but they seem to stop and a small size (they should grow long) and go red - and it isn't happening.

Is this just the weather? Would I be better off bringing them in and sitting them on a sunny windowsill.

    Many thanks!

If they are in the open garden then they will take longer to go red. They will ripen quicker if they were under cover so a sunny windowsill will be good - as long as it gets the light fpr most of the day. If you do, you'll need to turn the pots regularly so that they get even sunshine (once a day, preferably).

The size of the chillies depends on the variety. Some don't grow very big - I have some varieties that only grow 1" long.

My Vipers are just getting going - my fault as I sowed them late.

The bad news is the crosses will not be happening this season. All crossed pods have either died or failed but if you want still happy to pop some bits and bobs of specialist seed in post for you??
