    looks lovely, well done :dbgrtmb:

i can't believe dog owners allow their dogs to poop on your garden though.

bag it up without tying the bag, and follow the owners home and post it through their letterbox.

What beats me is that they must actually be watching their pet do it. Oh boy, they don't wanna be letting me catch them... :nonofinger:

    Hello Folks,
An update on the summer so far. I'm actually quite surprised that the relatively new raised bed now seems to look like it's always been there!

The only picture that brings a touch of sadness. I still can't bring myself to believe this is necessary, even though it has been effective thus far :gaah:

I've changed the photo order around so that the post doesn't end on a sad note. Enjoy the colour folks!

It looks brilliant Steve:dancy:...it's been great to see your garden from the start:dbgrtmb:....
I'm a dog owner and you wouldn't believe the 'crossed' words i've had with other dog owners about letting their dogs foul all over the place:gaah:
My dogs have been out and come home with 'IT' on their paws:gaah:....the only time i leave 'IT' is when 'IT'S' in a bunch of nettles..ok so i'm guilty of that....but how many times has anyone seen kids playing in nettles......this subject infuriates me...ignorant ...that's what they are....and when they can see...for example ...how well kept and lovely you've made your garden you'd think they would do different....:gaah:

        Hiya Steve.

It's not something that I would go for, but I have to admit it does look fab. Well done:blue thumb:

Many thanks for the kind comments peeps...
Well, I'm really glad that it gives you pleasure - as a certain celebrity chef would say "Done!" With such a small space I decided that something striking and unusual would come top of my agenda. One unavoidable thing was going to be the box, so adopting this classic art-deco design to suit the space seemed like a good idea. This especially as I didn't want or need to "garden" the entire area.

It's worked out way beyond any expectations I had. Passers-by always compliment me when I'm out there either weeding or cleaning the car. Here's how Google saw it back in May 2009...

It later changed into a bit of a builder's yard when I had my new bathroom and kitchen built. Considering how nice I used to have it when I was able, you can't imagine how it was getting me down. Stopping passers-by for the right reasons was a goal back then too :stirpot:

          Regards,
          Steve

You've done a grand job Pete! It's amazing how much different it looks when it matures and 'softens' with the planting. :dbgrtmb:

I cannot believe it! I am so disgusted by the dog owners who can allow their dogs to foul your garden. I am both disabled and a dog owner and if I on crutches can clean up after my dog then these young healthy dog owners, as I know they are, could certainly clean up after theirs. Where's their upbringing?

Somewhere pretty close to the gutter, methinks. I'm a dog owner too. Jealousy is a really sad predicament...

Can I ask where you got the solar lights from?

                Thanks ,

They came from an eBay seller at £25 for a pair plus postage. Sadly, it seems that I bought the last. Once I saw them out of the box I wanted to buy another pair, but the seller has none. I did have to get some replacement batteries from him though - apparently the ones fitted were "demos". They were made by "The Fine Lighting Company".

                  Regards,
                  Steve

                    Hello Folks,
It's now 12 months since I started planting this art-deco raised bed and it hasn't disappointed. The weeding hasn't been too onerous and despite the cold winter, and its exposed position, I haven't had too many losses. These may have been due to a combination of cold and drought. The soil is as dry as a bone!

It's strange that the Heucheras that I have planted in boxes and hanging-baskets have survived over the winter, but those in the raised bed have perished :(

Anyway, the latest addition has been some 12v LED lights. I've spaced 4 across the front, which should provide some useful markers for passers-by when the street-light opposite goes out, and 4 more to highlight the path beside the passenger side of the car...

I'll post some more pictures taken after dark. Work on the back garden has stalled a little. I'll be posting more about that in the water-gardening section...

                    Regards,
                    Steve
