Keep your chin up merleworld - the fact that you have got to a second interview tells me that you have at the very least came very close to getting the job, so proves how employable you are.

Redundancy is never going to be an easy thing to cope with, but for many people it can work out in the long run as being one of the best things that could have happened, simply because they end up working elsewhere with better conditions.

I know. Been there. But try to stick at it if you can. If you leave before you're redundancy kicks in, you'll have left by your own free will and wont get any redundancy payout and worst case, if you don't get another job straight away, you wont be able to claim any help because the state will say you're out of work through your own fault.

      Hi Clueless.

I am able to leave any time and they will still pay my redundancy and pay in lieu of notice. My last day is 7th September in any case, so not long to go now.

                Thanks guys.

I have another hurdle to go through in that they do some very strict security vetting because it's a financial institution, so fingers crossed.

I can't tell you how pleased I am to hear the news, Merleworld.:snork:. In the early years I was made redundant and went through the awful period that you do, worrying about the future, mortgage, supporting the family and all that.......really not nice. Congratulations on the offer of the job, and I wouldn't worry about the security check you'll sail through it. You've made my day!!!:snork:

If its FSA regulated, then the new employer has to ensure you are suitably qualified for the role. That's that box ticked, otherwise they wouldn't have offered you the job. They also have to check you don't have any unspent convictions for anything relevant to the industry. So as long as you haven't been done for fraud or money laundering or violations of the data protection act, misuse of computers act etc, you'll be fine.

The background checks are just a formality really.
