Its only right that you should get your travel for free - you have paid into the country for years! If there is not enough capacity for the workers, then that tells me that there is more demand for the services, and a more frequent service should be put on. Some of the routes operated by my company run a double deck bus every 3 minutes - being a Dumfries boy myself, that was incredible to me when I first came here, as well you will understand Jack.

If bus services were still operated as non-profit, public funded services then there would already be enough money in the pot to have more frequent and more reliable services throughout the country.

As for your local coach company - well, fair play to them I say; if they have found a way to turn a shilling whilst providing a service that people want or need, I think that is a good thing. To be honest, I would trade living here and my management role to be pottering about in a coach around Scotland in a heartbeat if I could afford to do so - I occasionally take a coach or a bus out and wriggle it down some tricky roads just to remind myself that I can still do it, and I would be as happy (and a damn sight less stressed) twiddling a steering wheel again.

Crikey! Takes me back to the days when I used to catch a bus to shop; I walked *to* the shops (all downhill) but getting home again with six shopping bags, a twin pushchair and a baby in a sling required a bus!! If a driver had even *thought* of refusing me I think I may have made a public scene
Thankfully, that was never my experience.

Hope you don't mind, clueless, but thought I'd edit your letter.
~ Always begin with the facts first (from your version the company would be hard pushed to narrow down who the driver may have been).
~ Try never to use (as tempting as it may be) potentially inflammatory statements ;) ("discrimination" falls into that category).
~ Never ask "could you" (of course they *could*, doen't mean they *will*: picky English, but it does make a difference, albeit subtle ;) )
~ Keep it simple, keep it factual and *end* with what you want from them (instead of beginning with).

Good luck with it; hope you get the clarification you've asked for. And I really do hope your wife doesn't have to be put in that position again, I know how frustrating it could be.

Sadly, Mum - I fear that Clueless probably won't get a meaningful answer as he is dealing with Arriva, who are (in my view) the scourge of my industry.

Really? Hmm, not a company I would wish to do business with, for sure! Thanks for the "head's up" :blue thumb:

Thanks Mum, but I only copied up the main part of the message. Dates, times, locations, service numbers etc were all seperate fields in the online form.

This has been a most interesting and informative read. Excellent stuff :dbgrtmb:
The bus services around here (Kent coast) are well used and pretty good, but not cheap. I'm glad I've got a bus pass - worth its weight in gold, I'd say!
