I got mine for a tenner in a car boot sale from some people who were moving to America. It might be an LG. The paddle tends to seize up now from lack of use.

I used it lots in the first year but then went off it, now it only comes out about once a year to make pizza base. I wouldn't get rid of it, though. On the rare occasions I might be moved to make anything dough-based, like Chelsea buns, say- I can get it do do the boring messy bits.

Also, my diet changed from being extremely heavily wheat-based. (Toast for brekkie, sandwich for lunch, pasta for tea) to being more protein/ veg/ rice based. I was also a bit horrified by the amount of salt that had to go into each loaf. As it's impossible to slice the loaves thinly I would end up eating almost half a small loaf for breakfast/lunch, using up the day's 6gm salt allowance in one go, plus all the butter that I like to consume on toast. No, it had to stop!

Tesco's current price is £119.97 on the Panasonic. Ebay and Amazon have priced it at £94.99, but there'll probably be a delivery charge added to that. I'll have a look at prices here on the island before I make a decision. :)

Watching the One Show earlier, they were doing an article on how the weather has affected crops this year, with wheat being one of the worst affected, and it is looking certain that the price of bread will be going up.

Of course, the price of flour will also go up, but given that a bag will make 3 or 4 loaves, its still going to be a lot cheaper to make our own.

I've just checked Amazon Sheal - they have both the SD2500 and the SD2501 (same machine with nut/raisin dispenser), with free delivery :)

They tend to make power tools over here Penny - famous for their drills. Not seen many domestic appliances from them.

Yes I'd noticed they'd got both FC. Unfortunately delivery isn't free to the island because of the shipping costs.

Ah, sorry Sheal - I forgot you were on the Isle. Are the shipping costs a lot?

It depends on the size and weight of the item. I was going to order a small item last week that would be sent in an envelope, the item's value was £12 the postage on it was nearly £7, so I didn't bother. But the cost of shipping larger items usually works out better than the smaller ones.

You'd wonder how on earth they work the prices out sometimes, wouldn't you. Next time you want something small, it might be worth an ask on here - one of us might be able to pick it up and send it surface mail to you cheaper than you can get it delivered to your door?

Incidentally, the raisin dispenser can be a handy thing if you are likely to make fruit loaves and stuff - saves you having to be around at the time when those ingredients need to be added; instead of you lifting the lid to put them in, you measure them into the top dispenser before you begin and it simply drops them in at the right time.

I like this thread. But then again, I like making bread. This one's just popped out. 100 gram white and 200gram malted wholemeal. With different nuts and seeds. Tonight's loaf 24 August 2012 001.JPG

It has a hole where the bread paddle went but the paddle came out cleanly.
Do you want a piccie of its bottom too?
Hurry up if you do - light's fading !!

No need to show me your bottom:biggrin: I too have a bread maker, but one of the things that kinda spoils it is the girt big hole in the bottom, as the paddle doesn't really come out cleanly...
